This is the article on the sole surviving Sumerian child. For the exosuit, head to Bamora. For other uses, see Bamora (Disambiguation).

Bamora (バモラ? Viz: Vamola) is one of the main characters in Dandadan and was the primary antagonist during the Kaiju Arc.

She is a Sumerian and the sole surviving child of her race. After arriving on Earth from escaping an invasion on her home planet, Bamora honors her adoptive mother's wishes to find a worthy husband who can help her preserve the Sumerian bloodline. Her quest leads to her battling against Momo and Okarun, along with their allies, and choosing Okarun as her partner to marry in the end.

Appearance[]

As a Sumerian, Bamora's physical appearance indistinguishably matches with that of a young female Earthling, as her body is completely humanoid with a slender build and has short, blonde hair. The only unique characteristics that sets her apart are her antennas attached to the top of her head and her green eyes that have star shape corneal reflections. She is greatly recognized as being very pretty by the boys around her.

Bamora wears a form-fitting white and black body suit that only exposes her shoulders and thighs but keeps this attire concealed while wearing her kaiju suit.

After Seiko decided to have her attend Kami High as an exchange student, Bamora used her kaiju suit to replica Momo's school uniform, with the only difference being the kaiju head left unaltered as a hoody or helmet of sorts. Currently, instead of Momo's sweater, she now switches to wearing the school blazer but has it customized with a hoody resembling the head of her kaiju suit.

Personality[]

Bamora is a friendly, innocent, kindhearted and compassionate young girl. Feeling sympathetic for her people as they were reduced to nothing but nourishment for the Kur's Big Mamas to create exosuits, Bamora chose to rush in and help the male Sumerians escape from their fates instead of prioritizing on her own safety to leave Sumer as Banga, Tome, and Aja instructed her to do. She is also very brave, as she chose to join Momo and her friends in stopping the Kur from invading Earth in light of her fear of them.

Following her adoptive mother's request to find a worthy husband to continue the Sumerian bloodline, Bamora was on the lookout for a strong male companion who could defeat her in battle. Her attempts could be perceived as being a bit rash, as the moment she arrived on Earth she instinctively attacked anyone she encountered to determine whether they were either weak or strong. While Okarun is the one she chose, Bamora can still acknowledge others who are strong, such as Kinta who started off gaining the upper hand in his battle against the Spatial Carving Kur. While wanting to honor her mother's wishes, Bamora is clueless about the concept of love and romance between a man and a woman, due to the fact that she has only been around females while growing up, and only has Banga's words about marriage to go off of. After feeling flustered from once observing a couple kissing, Bamora realizes that there is more to it than a male companion being strong.

Bamora is shown to have a love for Earth food, usually scarfing down on whatever she is served. Her favorite food in particular is takoyaki, which she had a tendency of saying while foreign to the Japanese language.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Banga[]

Bamora's parents were murdered by the Kur during their invasion of Kur, only to be found by Banga. Because of this initial act of kindness, and despite being raised by an entire group of elderly women, she latched onto Banga as her mother figure, much to Banga's chagrin. Despite this, Banga served as Bamora's primary educator, teaching her essential skills such as how to read and write, as well as Sumerian culture despite her skepticism of their mythology. Bamora loved her mother unconditionally and took her advice close to heart, if a bit too literally at times. An example of this is how Banga tells her to find a strong husband so she can continue the Sumerian bloodline, only to believe that it means that a man who beats her in a fight must become her husband.

Friends and Allies[]

Family[]

Momo Ayase[]

Bamora's relationship to Momo was initially mostly one-sided, as the former's kiss with Okarun enraged the latter. Her inability to properly communicate with her meant that Bamora was clueless regarding Momo's feelings of both her and Okarun. Bamora grew to view Momo as a sister figure, partially due to her aggression reminding her of Banga as well as due to being assigned to live with her, and as of such she highly respected Momo's opinions. Her obliviousness and innocent nature appeals to Momo's sweet side, whilst Bamora admires her psychic ability and hospitability.

Their relationship hit a snag after Momo was attacked at her maid cafe, as the Kur-control Serpo insinuated that it was due to Bamora that they arrived on Earth, rather than due to Jiji playing around with her suit. Even so, Bamora believed Momo was entirely justified in her anger and believed that it was still her fault for bringing the Kur over to Earth. However, the two were able to forgive eachother during the invasion, and the two have maintained a sisterly relationship ever since.

Okarun[]

Due to him being the one who opened her suit, whilst also being present during her initial fight with the family, Bamora believed that Okarun was the main reason why she lost her initial encounter with him. As of such she believed he was destined to be her husband. She was oblivious to Okarun's casual dismissals of her affection, nor was she aware that he harboured feelings for Momo. Her feelings towards Okarun blossomed even further due to her being assigned to his classroom, allowing the two to spend a lot of time together. Despite her affections, she harboured no ill will towards him or Momo when he told her his true feelings about Momo, and immediately understood that her attempts to marry him were all in vain. After this point, their relationship became far more platonic.

Kinta Sakata[]

Bamora considers Kinta to be a powerful ally due to his ability to skilfully control nanoskin - something shown to be admirable by other aliens such as Rokuo Serpo - which he used to not only wound her in their initial encounter, but also to save her during the Kur invasion of Earth. Her and Kinta also have strong synergy, as shown in how she helped him while co-piloting the Great Kinta mech. Compared to the other female members of the family, Bamora treats Kinta with the most kindness, partially due to her inherently sweet disposition and also partially due to being oblivious to his hopeless romanticisms. However, unlike Okarun and Jiji, Kinta's habits and speech quirks seem to have left the least impact on her despite his efforts.

Jiji[]

Bamora was unreceptive to Jiji's usual womanising, but grew to enjoy his more playful persona. This is despite the fact that had Jiji not gotten into Bamora’s suit as a joke, the Kur invasion wouldn’t have happened. She has picked up on much of his goofier traits and personality quirks, often mimicking his speech and facial expressions.

Aira Shiratori[]

Bamora and Aira have not interacted much with one another. However, they are shown to have a similar relationship to one another as Bamora's initial relationship with Momo, as in addition to her natural distrust of new people joining the Family, Aira disliked the fact that she kissed Okarun. However, after the Kur Invasion, she is shown to have a more peaceful relationship with her.

Background[]

Banga rescues Bamora

Bamora rescued by Banga.

Bamora was rescued as child by Banga after the alien terrorist army known as the Kur commenced an attack on Sumer and was deemed as the only surviving Sumerian child to make it out of the invasion. She was then taken care of by Banga as the woman fought alongside the other female Sumerians as the invasion continued on and came to acknowledge her as her mother in light of Banga's refusal to be viewed as such.

By the time she reached her adolescence, Bamora, Banga, and two of their colleagues (Tome and Aja) became the only survivors of the resistance after the group was annihilated by the Kur's ambush attack. Bamora began to lose hope in staying alive as the four of them are forced into hiding in a cave and asks for Banga to end her life using her rifle, wanting her to be the one to kill her instead of their enemies. Banga also starts to fall into despair until she remembers the Sumerian pyramid, a structure used to travel to their second homeland Idea (Earth) that she figures could help get them off the planet.

Bamora and Banga separate

Bamora and Banga separate.

Going along with this plan, Bamora and the others fought through the invading army until they had reached the pyramid, which became a spot for holding the male Sumerians prisoners. Wanting to help free them, Bamora made the choice to sneak in amongst the line-up and unlock one of the male Sumerians restraints, resulting in a riot ensuing as the Kur shoot down the male Sumerians trying to make their escape. After Banga acquired an exosuit resembling the god of Sumer and persuaded the male Sumerians into fighting alongside her, Bamora and her mother managed to make it to the pyramid together and activated the gate to the next planet. However, due to the gate only having enough power to transport one person, Bamora was forced by Banga to enter the gate alone and was given her exosuit to take along with her, much to Bamora's distress as she calls out to her mother from the other side. Before being teleported, Bamora was requested by Banga to find a strong man to marry on the next planet to continue the Sumerian bloodline and hears her mother expressing how much she loves her throughout the time they spent together.

Synopsis[]

Kintama Hunt Saga[]

Kaiju Arc[]

Momo and Okarun encounter Bamora

Bamora encounters Momo and Okarun while invisible.

At some point upon her arrival on Earth, Bamora was sighted at an apartment complex where the invisibility mode on her kaiju suit exposed its golden core. This then leads to her clashing against Momo, Okarun and Kinta, with the former and latter's reason for being at the apartment complex is to retrieve the core as they believe that it is the missing kintama belonging to Okarun. With the invisibility of her kaiju suit active, Bamora proves to be too difficult for Momo and Okarun to face, however, after Kinta figures out the workings behind the invisibility and relays the information to Momo and Okarun, Bamora becomes restrained by Momo's psychic powers after she swings herself around to the side of the balcony and is knocked out of the building by an All-Out charge attack from Okarun, temporarily putting her down.

Bamora kissing Okarun

Bamora kisses Okarun.

As a result of Okarun's attack on her, Bamora loses control of her exosuit after the Emergency Defense System activates to target Momo, Okarun, Aira, Jiji, and Kinta. The suit is soon shut down by Momo and Aira's powerbomb attack using a giant mecha that was previously piloted by Kinta to fight back against the kaiju. After being found inside the kaiju suit by Okarun, Jiji, and Kinta, Bamora sees Okarun's face and responds by kissing him, having recognized his strength and accepted him as her suitor from being defeated by him at the apartment. Bamora is then attacked by an angry Momo after she witnesses this scene but is saved by Okarun who rationalizes to Momo that Bamora does not seem too driven to continue fighting them and that they need to ask her about the missing kintama. Bamora then walks with Okarun, Jiji and Kinta to visit Mr. Mantis Shrimp to see if he could translate Bamora's words to them. Using the alien's translator device that could only pick up on a few of Bamora's words, Bamora explains to Okarun that her purpose for coming to Earth is to fight against a powerful opponent and to marry this person if she were to lose, much to his shock. Though Kinta steps in to claim credit, in an attempt to have her switch her liking over to him, Bamora continues to accept Okarun as she comes in to hug him.

At the Ayase residence, Bamora joins the others, along with Seiko and the Turbo Granny, for dinner as they talk about her and gets into a brief facial interaction with Momo after she makes an angry face at her. Shortly after, Bamora goes to her kaiju suit and accidently allows Jiji to step inside, causing a signal to be sent to an alien who had recently attacked the Serpo.

Space Globalists Arc[]

Bamora attacking Reiko Kashima

Bamora clashes with Reiko Kashima.

Bamora is given permission by Seiko to stay with her and Momo at their house and is decided by the latter to be sent to Momo's school as a transfer student. As the two walked together, Bamora is taught by Momo how to say her name and is asked to see the golden ball powering her suit to see if it was one of Okarun's kintama. She then runs with Momo to a shortcut to school, after she realizes that they are almost late, but end up running into a yokai named Reiko Kashima. After seeing Reiko Kashima attack Momo, Bamora uses her kaiju suit to fight the slit-mouthed woman. However, her attacks do no damage and is slammed to the ground by Reiko Kashima. Bamora then tries restraining Reiko Kashima to stop her from pursing Momo but ends up being trapped inside her mirror. After Momo also becomes trapped, Bamora follows her league in forcing Reiko Kashima to release them by acting cute inside her mirror and activates the invisibility of her kaiju suit to hide Momo from Reiko Kashima as she completes the spell that has the yokai disappear. Bamora then hugs Momo in relief after making it out of the area while repeating her words "been in trouble", which causes Momo to feel that she is trustworthy.

Bamora in Class C

Bamora being taught Japanese by Class C.

Bamora and Momo manage to arrive on time for school and meet up with Okarun and Aira who were waiting up for them. Shortly after being assigned to Okarun's class, where his classmates help her learn a few words, Bamora meets up with Momo and the others and shows them the golden ball her suit possesses, as Momo wonders if it is Okarun's kintama. At the Ayase residence, Bamora sleeps with Momo in her room while she tries to prevent Reiko Kashima from coming after her.

The next day, Bamora eats breakfast with Momo, Seiko, and the Turbo Granny and is given a new bag by the latter as they walk to school, which leads to them running into Okarun and Bamora trying to hold Momo back from randomly attacking him over last night's episode. At school, Bamora continues to receive lessons from her classmates on how to speak their language and meets up with Momo and the others outside as per Jiji's request to show them his new control over his powers. After school, Bamora thanks Momo before she heads off to work and is walked home by Okarun. Bamora tries to hold up Okarun by the time they reach the Ayase residence and communicates to him in her language. Though he didn't understand her, Okarun tells Bamora that he can't marry her since he is in love with Momo and runs off.

Momo attacking Bamora

Bamora attacked by Momo.

At the Ayase house, Bamora stays by Okarun's bedside as he, Aira, and Jiji are being treated by Mr. Mantis Shrimp, having been viciously attacked by the Kur who came searching for the Sumerian girl. Upon Momo's arrival, Bamora is pushed away by her to check on Okarun and is mistaken by her to be one of the Kur. Bamora communicates to Momo by telling her "thank you" and ends up angering her, leading to Momo attacking her as she demands that she remove her disguise and show her true form as one of the Kur. Bamora uses her suit to push Momo off of her and rushes out of the house. Outside, Bamora uses her suit's invisibility to walk away undetected as Momo throws rocks at her to drive her away and thanks Momo in her mind for the kindness she showed her even if it was only for a short time.

Bamora impaled by the Hastur Kur

Bamora impaled by the Hastur Kur.

At an unknown site after fleeing from the Ayase house, Bamora becomes depressed as she starts blaming herself for the Kur's arrival on Earth and begs her mother to give her courage to face her enemies again. Eventually, Bamora arrived shortly after the conflict between the Family and the Kur. As the Ta Koshin Jo Kur overwhelms Momo with his barrage of bullets, Bamora suddenly appears to attack and defeat the Kur using her suit's gigantic form and invisibility. Bamora is then restrained by an electrical weapon fired by the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur and is taken out of her kaiju suit by the Hastur Kur while still holding onto the backpack Momo gave her. As Momo becomes confused by the situation, as she is still under the assumption that Bamora is in league with the Kur, Bamora gives her thanks to Momo and is pierced through the abdomen by the Hastur Kur's tail.

Bamora's body is thrown aside by the Hastur Kur but is grabbed by Momo who is still confused by her actions. Momo then tries using her powers to close Bamora's fatal wound as Rokuro shields her from the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur and inadvertently views her tragic memories, along with her friends through the Serpo communication device. Bamora then wakes up revived after Rokuro injects her with a needle that heals her fatal wound. After Rokuro uses up the last bit of his strength to keep his shield up, Bamora sees Momo kicked away by the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur and is subdued by him until Momo uses her powers to attack him with a tree. Bamora is then hugged by Momo as she apologizes for the way she antagonized her before and cries being assured by her that her mother Banga is still alive. Momo also tells Bamora to stand behind her side as she prepares to fight the Hastur Suit and Jet Booster Exosuit Kur with trees she levitates off the ground.

Just as Momo loses ground fighting the Hastur Kur, she and Bamora are overwhelmed and restrained by the reinforcements that had come from the gate. However, they are saved by the timely arrival of Okarun, Aira, Mr. Mantis Shrimp, and the Evil Eye. Bamora joins them in battle using her exosuit, but is forcibly removed from it by the Hastur Kur who activates its Slaughter Mode as its new pilot. Bamora is then thrown out and sent falling from a great height but is saved by Kinta who calls on the nanoskin from the Ayase House to form the Great Kinta and fight the Hastur Kur, which Bamora became impressed with his performance in battle. After the Hastur Kur removes the piloting core from the mecha, Kinta has him and Bamora eject from it and relocate onto the kaiju suits' back to form a jetpack that he and Bamora controls to perform a devastating powerbomb that finishes off the Hastur Kur. With the invasion coming to an end, thanks to Reiko Kashima trapping the whole invading army inside her mirror, Bamora cries with Momo after everyone managed to make it through the battle and leaves off with them.

At the Ayase house, the family are served barbeque by Seiko, with Bamora enjoying the food and imitating Jiji's facial expressions. She and the others then walk with Momo to the market, which leads to them encountering Reiko Kashima who reveals to the group of her intentions to find a partner. On their way back from the market, Bamora holds Momo's hand as she listens to her interpretation of how she, Okarun, and Kinta were destined to discover Bamora given that the only time her exosuit's invisibility exposed its golden core was during the time they tried locating Okarun's kintama.

Onbusuman Arc[]

Bamora takes part in the ritual of restoring Okarun's kintama to its rightful place through a game of rugby football.

At school, Bamora showcases her newly acquired skill of speaking Japanese to Momo, Okarun, and Kinta, having learned by mimicking the speech patterns of Okarun and Turbo Granny. She then expresses excitement alongside Okarun and Kinta about starting an Occult Club as a way to meet up at school, with Bamora keen to discuss octopus-related cuisine. After the club is established with deputy head teacher Sanjome as their advisor, the four are assigned the task of clearing out an old storage room to convert it into their clubroom.

As she dines with Momo, Seiko, and Turbo Granny, Bamora is asked by Seiko if an incident at school had caused Momo's anger at the dinner table, to which Bamora suspects that it was likely related to a Japanese lesson. She then urges Turbo Granny to rejoin the dinner table as she rejoices in her triumph in her verbal spar with Momo, and proceeds to mediate the tension between Seiko and Turbo Granny. Soon after, Bamora hears Rin's backstory when Okarun brings her over to understand how she became haunted by an Onbusuman. Bamora is then left at the Ayase house with the Turbo Granny, while Momo, Okarun, Seiko, and Rin initiate their strategy to free Rin from the Onbusuman.

Danmanra Arc[]

Bamora greets Okarun at the door after he comes to the Ayase house looking for Seiko and learns from him that Momo is in trouble. She then urges Turbo Granny to settle down after she gets into a fight with Mai. After Turbo Granny, Rin, and Mai leave with Okarun to help free Momo from the cursed trunk, Bamora is instructed by Turbo Granny to stay at the house.

At Goro Stamina Booster, Bamora is enchanted by Momo's shrunken state as she is being played with by Aira. Later, she participates in the traditional ball game activity of returning Okarun's kintama to the owner's groin through a baseball match and observes, alongside others, the moment Turbo Granny's power is returned to her.

Current Saga[]

Pygmy Princess Arc[]

During breakfast, Bamora attempts to quench Momo's thirst with a water dropper upon request but ends up apologizing for accidentally releasing too much water. As Seiko insists on Momo continuing to attend school despite her small size, Bamora slips Momo into her blazer pocket to bring her along and sets her on the desk to take notes during class. Bamora is then advised by Okarun to be more cautious in hiding Momo and clarifies to a nearby student that she was not trying to speak to him, a confusion resulting from Momo's efforts to explore her knowledge of fairy lore. After class, the History and Culture Research Club decide to visit the library to do research on fairies, as Okarun believes that it may lead to curing Momo.

Equipment[]

Bamora [v · e]
Kaiju suit

Bamora goes into combat using an exosuit that was given to her by her adoptive mother Banga before the two became separated.

The exosuit's design greatly resembles the god of Sumer, which is depicted as being a kaiju. The exosuit has a spring body, with the only exception being its four-fingered claw hands, three-toed feet, and thighs. Its head has a dark line running down to each of its eyes and is followed up with two dark lines running down to its jaw. Previously, the kaiju had three horns, two on its head and one on its nose, but was left with only the nose horn after the exosuit took heavy damage in battle against the Great Kinta Bodhisattiva, Zeta Version piloted by Kinta. The mouth of the kaiju can be opened to allow the wearer to stick their head out and roam around.

Capabilities
Heads-Up Display
Bamora's HUD
The Bamora features a heads-up display for analyzing the environment.
Heart-Pounding Hidden Mode
Heart-Pounding Hidden Mode
The Bamora has the ability to enter the Empty Space through this function.
Enhanced Strength
Bamora punches bear
The Bamora provides the wielder with incredible strength, as a single punch delivered from them is shown to have enough force behind it to knock back a bear a good distance away. The enhanced strength is also capable enough to overwhelm humans who possess yokai powers that has their bodies become superhuman.
Enhanced Durability

The Bamora has proven to be very durable when hit with attacks that possess a great deal of power behind them. Even though it was hit with a charging attack from Okarun at full force and dealt with serious attacks from Kinta, Momo, and Aira while piloting the Great Kinta Bodhisattiva, including a destructive powerbomb that caused a giant crater to form, the Bamora showed no signs of any major damage other than its horn being destroyed and continued to function properly after the battle. It is also worth noting that Bamora showed no signs of injury after ejecting out of the exosuit. The Kur that once piloted a Spatial Carving Exosuit also pointed out that the Bamora's durability is what makes it an incredible exosuit to wield, having praised it for not taking any damage from the Tokyo Tower that was being used as a weapon by Kinta piloting his mecha.

Tail
Bamora's tail
The wearer of the Bamora can choose to make use of its tail in combat.
Transparency
(透明 Tōmei?)
Bamora Invisible
The Bamora has the ability to blend in with its environment, rendering itself invisible to the naked eye. As elaborated by Kinta, the invisibility follows the same principles as in science fiction where the Bamora is electro-luminescent and is using retro-reflective projection on the image a person would see in front of them.
Size Enhancement
Giant Kaiju Form
The Bamora is able to increase in size and mass. The size of the Bamora varies depending on how big the wearer wishes the exosuit to be, with the maximum size being 45 meters, a gigantic size that overshadows the buildings of Kamigoe City.
Clothing Replication
The Bamora is able to replicate the attire of anything the wearer wishes to change into. This is done when the wearer has the core within the Bamora's nose horn scan the person's attire, which will then morph the Bamora to match the clothing and material exactly.
Emergency Defense System
(緊急防衛システム Kinkyū Bōei Shisutemu?)

The Bamora has an emergency defense system that is programmed to fight on the wearer's behalf. It is unknown how the wearer can activate and deactivate this function voluntarily, as the emergency defense system was accidently set off after Okarun charged at it with full force, resulting in Bamora losing control and having no idea how to regain it until it was forcibly shut down by Momo and Aira performing a powerbomb while piloting the Great Kinta Bodhisattiva.

Slaughter Mode
(大虐殺モード Dai Gyakusatsu Mōdo?)
Slaughter Mode
The Bamora features a second form called Slaughter Mode that drastically changes its appearance, becoming bestial and ferocious looking while gigantic in size.
Usage

As with all exosuits, Bamora uses hers for the main purpose of engaging in combat. With her fighting style being hand-to-hand combat, Bamora is able to utilize the enhanced physical prowess that the exosuit offers to deliver strong melee blows. This also includes using the exosuit's tail as an effective attack by slamming it at her opponents like a whip. If facing an opponent who is strong and/or large in stature, Bamora uses the exosuit's size enhancement to match their height and give an increase to her physical strength.

Using the exosuit's invisibility, Bamora can perform sneak attacks on her enemies or to retreat undetected. With the exosuit being able to fit more than one person, Bamora can help mask the presence of her allies by having them join her inside, though so far it is only known to be able to fit at least two people. This was showcased when Bamora hid Momo from Reiko Kashima as she shouted out the word "pomade" to have the yokai vanish. Bamora also has shown using the exosuit's invisibility to spy on others, as she observed a couple making out up close to understand the concept of marriage.

Outside of battle, Bamora uses the exosuit's clothing replication to dress as a student at Momo's high school.

Trivia[]

  • Like all aliens in the series, Bamora takes references from the Ultraman series:
    • Bamora's name, as well as the name of her exosuit, is most likely a reference to the kaiju Bamora, while the suit's design itself is most likely based off the kaiju Gomora.
  • Jiji connects Bamora's name to a Dekavita C commercial sponsored by Kazuyoshi Miura, known as King Kazu, where the famous footballer shouts the word "Bamora" towards the end. Coincidentally, Jiji refers to this commercial in Chapter 32.
  • Bamora might be modeled after Rie Ota, the Japanese stuntwoman who was the primary suit actress for Baragon in Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.
  • Bamora also bears a resemblance to Rei Ayanami from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. Additionally, they are both pilots of a mecha and have similar designs to their piloting outfits.
