Okarun and Kinta (オカルンと金太 Okarun to Kinta?) is the one hundred eighty-eighth chapter of the Dandadan manga series.
Summary[]
A yokai-enhanced Hase and the alien survivor from the Kur's Advance Unit, equipped with a new exosuit, pursue Okarun and Kinta, with the latter panickily questioning who their new enemies are. Hase delivers a kick to Okarun, who is fortunately shielded by the airbags on his wrist, crafted from Kinta's nanoskin. Okarun warns Kinta that this protection won't suffice against their foes and insists on finding Rin and Koki to ensure their safety. Kinta brushes off his concerns regarding the airbags, tells him to distract the enemy, and that they don't have the freedom to focus on Rin and Koki. Okarun then questions the presence of the alien and the person wielding yokai powers. Hase reverts from his yokai transformation, feeling the fatigue that comes with it and the discomfort in his feet. He instructs the exosuit-wearing alien to stop moving around, as it complicates his aim at Okarun, and tells her to pursue Kinta instead. However, the alien ignores Hase's request, concentrating instead on adjusting her exosuit gifted by Count Saint-Germain, which she struggles to manage. Hase attempts to redirect her focus, reminding her that they both seek Okarun's powers. However, after transforming into his yokai form again, he makes it clear that his true goal is actually to seek revenge on Okarun and cautions her against getting in his way, lest she become his next enemy. As the two engage in conversation, Kinta seizes the moment to quickly utilize his nanoskin to create armor for Okarun. He cautions Okarun against touching the gear to avoid damaging it, highlighting that the armor is equipped with verniers on the back and pile bunkers on the legs for his use. Subsequently, Kinta employs the remaining nanoskin to form the Great Kinta around himself for combat, leaving Okarun shocked and dissatisfied with the limited protection of his own armor. Once the modifications are complete, the alien charges at Kinta, evading his attack and delivering a kick to Okarun, which surprisingly inflicts minimal damage. Kinta feels a sense of pride, revealing that he had been testing the hardness of steel by carrying a paper with him, aiming to enhance the durability of the Great Kinta after the invasion. However, he is soon taken aback when Okarun informs him that the suits are cumbersome and difficult to maneuver in. This distraction provides Hase with an opportunity to kick Kinta away. Okarun questions the alien about her motives, to which she responds that he has taken everything from her. Okarun retorts that their conflict began when she stole his kintama. The alien explains that the Kur destroyed her home planet, and she joined them to get close enough to assassinate their emperor, having nearly succeeded as the right hand of Hastur. However, following the Family's victory in the invasion, her plans have been thwarted. While she demands recognition for her years of struggle, Okarun dismisses her grievances as irrelevant and retaliates with a powerful attack, using the verniers to propel himself toward her. She parries the blow and prepares to counter with a punch, but Okarun activates his pile bunkers, delivering a heavy strike that sends both fighters tumbling. Eager to calm the escalating conflict, Okarun pleads with her to cease her actions, insisting that he is not her enemy. Nevertheless, as memories of her past with her partner flood her mind, she remains steadfast in her determination, declaring her intent to end his life and then her own.
