Spiral Training (螺旋運動 Rasen Undō?) is the two hundred and fifth chapter of the Dandadan manga series.
Summary[]
After being hit by Jiji's Evil Gun, Enenra is shocked to find that he can be struck despite being made of smoke, leading him to question the possibility of this occurrence. Having successfully landed the attack, Jiji praises himself and shoots another Evil Gun at Enenra. Enenra dodges the attack and advances to throw a punch. The Evil Eye switches places with Jiji to block the punch using his elbow and counters with a kick. Nevertheless, he fails to hit Enenra and is kicked back by the smoke yokai. Jiji then swaps places with the Evil Eye again and fires a third Evil Gun at Enenra, which once again successfully connects. Enenra questions Jiji about how he achieves this, to which Jiji explains that he is employing Spiral Power that he learned from Seiko.
In a flashback, Seiko introduces Jiji to the concept of spintronics, a scientific principle with potential applications to Spiral Power. She begins by explaining that L-form amino acids, the twenty types that constitute bodily proteins, naturally rotate to the left, while sugars and genetic material rotate to the right, which vary depending on the direction of rotation. Seiko elaborates that leftward rotation corresponds to the release of energy — loosening forces — whereas rightward rotation signifies the containment or storage of energy. Building on this, she explains that a palm wave rotating to the left would be more effective against corporeal enemies, whose physical forms respond to loosening energy. Conversely, a rightward rotation is better suited for ethereal enemies, whose smoke-like bodies are composed of loosely bound energy. Jiji admits that generating a palm wave already requires his full effort, and that he is not yet capable of factoring in rotational dynamics. Seiko acknowledges this limitation but encourages him to store the principle away mentally, assuring him that it will become useful in time.
As Jiji prepares to fire another Evil Gun, he explains to Enenra that his smoke-like form renders his energy diffuse — an L-form — making him susceptible to a rightward rotational attack. Enenra, unable to grasp the technical explanation, swiftly closes the distance and kicks Jiji away, declaring that regardless of his understanding, Jiji will not be able to defeat him. Observing Jiji once again shifting into the Evil Eye state, Enenra remarks that the only reason Jiji can withstand his attacks is by alternating control with the yokai within him. He recognizes that the spiritual energy enveloping the body is bolstering his defenses but also notes that this same state prevents him from firing the Evil Gun. Seizing the moment, Enenra launches a brutal assault, an uppercut to the stomach and chin followed by a flurry of punches. While maintaining pressure, Enenra urges his opponent to accept defeat. He warns that as long as he disrupts Jiji's ability to fire the Evil Gun, victory is impossible, and that reverting to his human form will only expose him to further damage. However, the Evil Eye evades a kick aimed at his head, places his palms on Enenra, and delivers a powerful kick that sends the yokai flying, with the attack also causing him to bleed from his mouth. Enenra then realizes that his opponent has entered a new state in which Jiji is now actively channeling the Evil Eye's power. The young man then lets Enenra know that him being a genius is how he plans to beat him.
Characters in Order of Appearance[]
Events[]
- Jiji and Evil Eye vs. Enenra.
- The Evil Eye and Jiji swap between one another to either respectively resist Enenra's blows or attack him.
- Seiko is shown teaching Jiji about spintronics, with a left rotation being a loosening force corresponding to ethereal bodies while a right rotation is a containing force for physical ones.
- By attacking Enenra's left-rotating ethereal body with his ki spinning to the right, Jiji does significantly more damage.
- Enenra physically overwhelms the Evil Eye to stop him from switching to Jiji.
- Jiji and the Evil Eye counter this by supposedly fusing to have both high resistance and ki manipulation.
