Daiki Hakono (はこだい Hakono Daiki?) is a young boy who was once confined within the realm of Danmara after acquiring the cursed trunk that held the Fairy-Tale Card captive. After managing to escape, Daiki became afflicted with a curse that causes him to age rapidly as a result of him consuming food from that world. Currently, he is receiving assistance from Unji Zuma in order to find a cure and return to his normal life.

Appearance[]

Daiki possesses circular eyes, a snout-like nose and dark hair. In his childhood, he had a bowl cut hairstyle. When he received the cursed trunk as a birthday present from his father, he was dressed in a long-sleeved sweater over a collared shirt and jeans.

After a significant duration in Danmara, Daiki transformed into a thin, elderly man with a moustache and beard. His appearance was unkempt, characterized by hairy arms and legs, and he wore bandages around his legs. He had outgrown the clothes he wore when he entered the dimension, leading him to don a rugged, sleeveless shirt and underwear. Like every other Danmara player, he also wore a helmet.

As a result of Danmara's curse, Daiki has aged rapidly, causing his hair to become both longer and white. His beard has now connected and extends to his chest, and he has experienced a significant loss in height. At present, he is dressed in a varsity jacket featuring a prominent 'B' and a plain bucket hat.

Personality[]

As a child, Daiki idolized his father and aspired to become a pilot just like him. With the backing of his peers, he held a strong sense of pride and self-assurance. However, he was also arrogant to view himself as superior to those he deemed lesser, with his classmate Toru being his main target.

Following his time surviving in the world of Danmara, Daiki developed a great fear of the dimension and refused to ever return after he was finally freed from his confinement. Having spent time with Unji and Raiya, who generously offered their assistance in curing his curse, Daiki reflected on the way he had mistreated Toru and desired to redeem himself as a better person by eventually extending an apology to him.

Kintama Hunt Saga[]

Danmara Arc[]

After visiting Unji Zuma's empty house, Momo and Okarun hear screaming when suddenly Daiki shows up, half-naked and holding a sword. The two start running and Momo is able to immobilize him while Okarun calls the police, but Daiki was being followed by a gang who demand to hand him over. After activating his Turbo Granny powers, the gang realizes Okarun is just like Unji. Daiki starts bawling as he doesn't want to go back after he just got out of there, but the duo resolves the fight and the three of them are brought to their hideout where a diorama is located.

Tension rises when the gang reveals that they want to throw Daiki back inside the cursed object to get Unji out, as he was the one living inside in the first place. Daiki reveals that the cursed trunk was given to him when he was a 4th grader as a birthday gift, but when he touched it, he was transported inside Danmara. He survived for many years, avoiding monsters and eating sweets, but when he decided to take his own life, a girl from the hideout approached him. As soon as he touched her hands, he was sent back to the real world and was offered to live inside Unji's home to figure how to return to a normal life. Unji swapped places with the girl to destroy the world and prohibited anyone from accessing the diorama. However it has been more than a week since he entered with the Golden Ball given to him by a mysterious figure, so they once again try to send Daiki inside. He tries to fend off the teenagers by swinging his sword, but Momo accidentally falls back and touches the diorama, disappearing.

He listens to Okarun and the gang discussing on what to do before he turns into his Turbo Granny form to run towards the Ayase residence. After the final boss is defeated and the final seal is broken, Fairy Tale Card gets freed inside the Danmara. He explains how he freed the old man and the girl since they didn't want to play the game, but in the meanwhile they could tell everyone what they had seen and bring more people in the cursed trunk. Daiki and two girls are shown talking together, hoping to bring as many people as possible inside the diorama to make the rescue easier. Okarun recruits Turbo Granny, Rin and Mai to bring everyone out of Danmara and Daiki is there assisting them. He gets scared when Mai turns into an eldritch form and surrounds Rin to put her inside her idol clothes. When the hip hop duo turns on the music and Rin starts singing, Daiki and the others start cheering her on.

Everybody gets brought out by Rin, but Fairy Tale Card is also able to escape by using Zuma's Umbrella Boy form. Later in the fight, the yokai begins possessing the teenagers with his powers, so Daiki and other still conscious members try to protect Rin from the attacks. Thanks to the efforts of Okarun, Count Saint-Germain, Rokuro and Masamichi Vega, the Fairy Tale Card is defeated and Daiki gets helped by the gang members after he got injured in the brawl and lost his helmet. In the following days Daiki, along with the hideout's friend group, together visit Unji in the hospital, begging for his help. Unji is surprised to see all of them safe, but insists to keep quiet to avoid disturbing the other patients.

Current Saga[]

Kozuka Knives Arc[]

Outside of Kami High, Renjaku's students start guarding the school's gate, intimidating anyone who tries to leave. The girls of the school ask Okarun to talk to them, so along with Bamora and Momo, he approaches them. Unji recognizes Okarun and walks to him, demanding to see the girl he adventured Danmara with. After he discovers that she has turned small, he brings out a really old Daiki with a full grown white beard, explaining that he has been aging unnaturally since the whole Danmara incident. Thanks to his dad Vega they were able to find his parents, though they treated it as a sick joke due to Daiki disappearing just four years ago. Upon hearing his story, Zuma felt sad for him and wanted to help him out. Momo agrees and asks him to come to her house, but the conversation is cut short when Jiji and Aira attack Zuma and retrieve Momo, believing he's one of the power users with the task of stealing Momo's powers just like Koki.

The group walks towards the Ayase residence with Unji carrying Daiki on his shoulder, however the tension is still high. Once there, Seiko brings good news as they might be able to turn Momo back to normal and they all prepare to depart to Shimane. Seiko notices the trio so Momo introduces them and asks her to examine Daiki because he too was stuck in the cursed trunk. Unji also adds that he was in seventh grade when he entered and he's now aging at an incredible speed. Seiko theorizes on a quick glance that it must be the same curse placed on Momo and orders them to come, even covering their traveling expenses. When Kinta arrives to inform the group of the blackmailer who approached Koki, Okarun and Aira decide to remain in Kamigoe City and they rush to the gym to assist Rin.

Typhoon Human Arc[]

At the airport, Momo's curse seems to have accelerated as Bamora and Seiko cannot remember her anymore, but also Unji's, who's now blind, and Daiki's, now unable to walk on his own. Raiya picked him up on his shoulders and asked someone to accompany Unji so Seiko orders Bamora to hold his hand. Raiya tells Daiki to be patient a little longer so they can remove his curse, but Daiki wonders why he's going out of his way to help him, considering that the first time they met, he was trying to beat him up with a stick. Raiya admits that he thought he was the one responsible for Unji's disappearance and Daiki is surprised he would go that far for him and asks why. Raiya points out that Unji helped both of them and he reveals how he was bullied when he was younger and Unji came to his rescue, but he also cared about his friends deeply and never left anyone behind. Daiki listens while Raiya explains how the world moves too fast and they try to keep up but they can't, even when trying their best, so they just wanted to be forgiven and be told that they were okay, which Unji did and they'll thus do anything for his sake.

On the plane, Daiki quietly sits between Raiya and Seiko, too tired to mutter a word, even when Seiko is sweating profusely. Because of the attack of the subterraneans, Bamora is forced to summon empty space to protect the civilians by using her suit's heart-pounding hidden mode, teleporting everyone in the pocket dimension. Daiki listens to Unji's advice and he quickly hides under the seats, but he can't help but call for help as he sees Raiya getting beaten up by one of the Kitos, frightening him. Later, the Typhoon Human suddenly appears and enters empty space, carrying around thousands of frozen sharks which crash through the plane and the outside pressure tries to carry out everyone inside. Daiki manages to grab on and Raiya puts an oxygen mask on him following Seiko's instructions to avoid hypoxemia.

With the defeat of the Typhoon Human by the hands of Momo, Unji and Jiji collaborating with the Kitos on the back of the Mongolian Death Worm, Daiki looks out the window, reminding him when Unji accommodated Daiki in his home for the time being, promising to him that he will resolve everything. Suddenly Daiki starts looking for Unji and asks Raiya where he is, who also doesn't know and he hopes for his safe return. Daiki forcefully grabs Raiya and begs him to bring him to the cockpit to help Unji, confusing Raiya who doesn't believe that the old man is up to the task, physically and mentally. As memories with his dad flood his mind, Daiki affirms that he knows how to pilot a plane, surprising Raiya who initially believes he's referring to arcade games which is very different from real life. Daiki restates that his father was a pilot and he trained with flying simulators. Furthermore, he apologizes to Raiya, claiming that he has fooled them the entire time and he doesn't deserve to be protected by good people like him and Unji, revealing that he bullied a classmate when he was younger.

In class, a young and prideful Daiki boasted about becoming a pilot just like his father, receiving compliments from his classmates. Suddenly, Daiki consulted Toru from the front of the class, half asleep, asking what future job he would have. However he didn't even give him time to speak as he began to ridicule him by mentioning his academic struggles and his lack of worth which would render him useless in the future. In the end, Daiki foretold that at best, Toru would become a garbage collector. The kid thought about it and he unexpectedly thanked Daiki since they keep the town clean and affirmed that it's a very good job. Daiki didn't know how to respond and deeply realizes that even though he looked down on him, Taro was an incredible kid and he realized just how worthless he was. He then claims that his terrible behavior was the reason he was punished and sent to Danmara, unable to return to the home which made him so prideful, making him realize how foolish he has been. Even though he acknowledges that giving up would be easier for him mentally as no one would care if he died, Daiki pushes forward, declaring that he wants to apologize to Toru as he learned from Raiya and Unji how to live as a kind, strong and sincere person, which he aspires to become. With tears in his eyes and a look full of determination, he finishes by stating that he wants to be the kind of man who will do whatever it takes to help. Raiya, noticing his passion, doesn't waste time and carries him to the cockpit where Seiko was almost falling unconscious, declaring that Daiki knows how to pilot the plane because of his father.

Daiki sits down and takes control of the plane. Raiya puts a hand on his shoulders, prompting him to stay calm, and Daiki reassures him that he'll do his best. Later, they spot Momo, Unji, and Jiji, now possessed by the Evil Eye, falling down the sky after the Kitos and the Mongolian Death Worm were eaten by a megalodon and thrown to the moon by a kick of the yokai. Bamora suddenly intervenes, declaring that she has pinpointed their location and starts giving out instructions to close the distance, allowing Momo to latch on the plane and get everyone back inside. Daiki flies the plane towards the airport of Izumo and manages to land, shocked by what he just did while Raiya compliments him with joyful tears in his eyes. Bamora then reverts her exosuit to normal and announces that Empty Space is about to run out, prompting everyone to return to their seat to not attract attention when they return to reality. Daiki is too weak to walk and he's carried by Seiko and Raiya to his seat. When they return to Earth, incredibly no one has noticed their prolonged absence.

Shimane Arc[]

They later finally reach the shrine with Daiki being carried on Raiya's back, but unexpectedly, a priest alerts them that the Uchide-No-Kozuchi has been stolen. Short on time, Seiko decides to leave Daiki, Unji and Raiya at the shrine while the others enter a taxi to go after the Phantom Ninja Thief.
