Etymology[]
Dan means "story" (談) and is commonly used as a suffix for three terms:
- "ghost story" (怪談) (kaidan)
- "strange story" (奇談) (kidan)
- "experience" (体験談) (taiken-dan)
In Japanese, Dan means "bold" (膽), Da means "big" (大) and Dan means "party" (黨). Roughly translated, compound word Dandadan means "bold party" (膽大黨).
History[]
Before the serialization of Dandadan, Yukinobu Tatsu previously worked as an assistant for Tatsuki Fujimoto, the well-known manga artist of the Chainsaw Man series, and Yūji Kaku, the well-known manga artist of the Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku series. The decision to serialize was made at a Shōnen Jump+ meeting in the second quarter of 2020. Tatsu began working on Dandadan after the completion of Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku, as he chose to fulfill his duties as an assistant to the end.
