Synopsis[]
Okarun and Jiji find a hidden room where talismans are plastered everywhere, including the ceiling, walls, and floor. The front door intercom suddenly rings. Expecting Momo, they open the front door, only to find Naki and the Kito family members waiting for them. Meanwhile, Momo is in a pinch, being attacked by the Kito family men at the onsen...
Plot[]
As the group of men close in, Momo readies herself to fight back with her powers. However, she has her hands restrained by one of them and slips and falls into the water. As she finds herself too weak to fight back from feeling lightheaded, the hot spring itself suddenly collapses on the men, sparing Momo. In the aftermath, she spots Turbo Granny soaking nearby, who casually reveals she snuck into Momo's bag before they left home just to enjoy the bath herself. The collapse of the hot springs attracts the chamber of commerce who recognize the men as the male members of the infamous Kito Family, leading them to believe that they are the ones responsible for the hot spring's destruction. As the chamber of commerce chase after the fleeing male Kitos, Momo and Turbo Granny leave the scene, with Momo expressing her hope that the vile men end up being captured. While walking together, Momo thanks Turbo Granny for her help getting her out of the situation, only to be clarified by the maneki-neko doll that she only managed to get out of it due to the nature of the vessel she is inhabiting. After Momo asks her if she sensed anything paranormal at Jiji's house, Turbo Granny warns Momo that the house is dangerous, explaining that it is soaked in blood.
After uncovering the hidden room, Okarun urges Jiji to wait for Momo to return from the hot spring before taking any further action, believing that it might be too dangerous to explore on their own. The two then hear the sound of the doorbell. Hoping it's Momo, Jiji rushes to answer it, only to find the female Kito Family members standing at the door. Upon making themselves at home, Okarun and Jiji listens as the female Kitos express their dislike for the neighbor's mistreatment of them. The head Kito invites Jiji to eat snacks with them, which leads to her reminding him of her generosity allowing him to live in the house rent free after his parents were hospitalize. Okarun asks Jiji who the people in the living room are and is informed by him that they are the Kito Family who serve as his landlords. Jiji discreetly asks Okarun to play along and not mention the damage they had done to the house. When the head questions Jiji about his sudden disappearance, he casually explains that he stepped out to invite Okarun over. She then pointedly asks if he plans to hire any more spirit mediums, a topic that infuriates the female Kitos, believing that Jiji will end up ruining their reputation by continuing this act. When Jiji denies it, she responds by pulling out a shotgun, delivering a thinly veiled threat as she mentions the fact that she has a hunting license. Jiji reminds her that even with a license, pointing a gun at someone is still a crime. The male Kitos then arrive with police officer Tsuru who had helped them escape the chamber of commerce. One of the male Kitos becomes skeptical of Okarun's relationship with Jiji and decides to test him by asking what Jiji's favorite soccer team is. Okarun answers correctly, having noticed the team poster conveniently covering the hole in the wall they made. The moment seems to defuse the situation until Naki catches Jiji in a lie when he denies ever bringing a girl over to the house.
Meanwhile, Momo visits the Tsuchinoko shrine, only to find the shrine priest striking in an exaggerated hand stance in an attempt to become a Bootuber. Her curiosity to see the Tsuchinoko turns to disappointment when she sees that what is being presented as the legendary Tsuchinoko is a shed skin of a snake. The priest, sensing her dismay, explains the local legend, that in ancient times, human sacrifices were offered to the Tsuchinoko to prevent the nearby volcano from erupting whenever it felt hungry and what she is seeing is the shed skin of a snake that his father decided on calling the Tsuchinoko to attract tourist, which also lead people to pray to it as another solution to the volcano. He also explains that the Tsuchinoko legend was created by the people manifested from their fears and that he merely serves to tell the tale and prevent the old ways from being reenacted despite his true goal in wanting to become a Bootuber. With the last part, Momo becomes prompted to suggest that he upload his story to gain attention, much to the priest's shock to realize.
Afterward, Momo returns to Jiji's house hoping Okarun and Jiji are getting along. However, upon entering the house and discovering Okarun and Jiji bruised and beaten on the floor by the Kito Family, Momo is immediately confronted by them, with the head Kito delighted to now have all of their offerings present. As they charge at her, Momo fends them off until a powerful blow from the family's head sends her crashing through the wall and into the hidden room. The head of the Kito Family reveals to Momo that for generations their family have been the one making offerings to the Tsuchinoko to prevent the eruption of the village's volcano and that the house is actually an altar for this purpose. Momo becomes shocked by this revelation, especially when she realizes the horrifying implication involving Jiji's parents. As the head of the family declares that the timing is perfect now all three offerings now stand ready to appease the Tsuchinoko's hunger, Momo finds her feet begin to sink into the floor turning into quicksand.
Momo attempts to use her powers to pull herself and Turbo Granny out from the room, only for her efforts to be obstructed by the Kito Family. Nevertheless, the Kito Family also enter the sinking room after being shoved by Okarun and Jiji, who regain consciousness. Okarun reaches out to Momo in an effort to rescue her, but becomes too late, as he, Momo, Turbo Granny, Jiji, and the Kito Family all descend into the Tsuchinoko's lair consisting of the generational houses. The Tsuchinoko then appears before them, and both Turbo Granny and Okarun clarify that it is actually a kuragari, or Mongolian Death Worm, rather than the Great Snake. However, the Kito Family presents Momo, Okarun, and Jiji as the next sacrifices, despite Momo's attempts to reveal the cryptid's true nature. After the Tsuchinoko attacks the Kito Family by consuming them, Momo, Okarun, and Jiji seek refuge in one of the houses to avoid receiving the same fate. Upon entering, Jiji turns around to find Momo and Okarun lying on the floor with their hands on their heads. He is then approached by Okarun with Turbo Granny's form manifesting, who roars furiously at Jiji.
