That's, Like, Way Deadly (やば過ぎじゃんよ Yabasugi jan yo?) is the sixteenth episode of the Dandadan anime series.
Synopsis[]
Momo succeeds in bringing the Mongolian Death Worm above ground. However, perhaps as a result of this, a volcano suddenly erupts. In order to stop the flow of magma, Momo uses her psychic powers to lift the Mongolian Death Worm and use it like a hose to put out the fire. However, the Kito Family gets in Momo's way. Furthermore, Jiji, who has been taken over by the Evil Eye, appears, putting Momo in a big pinch.
Plot[]
As the volcano erupts, the villagers are ordered to evacuate. Amid the panic, the Kito Family matriarch confronts Momo, blaming her for triggering the disaster and invoking the ancient prophecy that once justified their sacrificial offerings to the Tsuchinoko. When Momo hears the line "the dragon rising to heaven," she questions how it could it refer to the Tsuchinoko given its restriction to sunlight. After reevaluating the prophecy's meaning, she realizes and tells the Kito Family that it was never about the Tsuchinoko, rather that the "dragon" metaphor referred to a fountain, a hidden signal of volcanic unrest, and that somewhere along the line the prophecy had been misinterpreted and ritualized. Taking action, Momo harnesses her powers to transport the Tsuchinoko's remains to the hot spring's fountain where she uses the creature's rear end to plug the geyser. She then runs back to the head and lifts it as mucus starts to gush out from the mouth, helping her to neutralize the magma flow.
With the Tsuchinoko's corpse, Momo manages to make progress in cooling the flow of magma but figures that her biggest problem would have to be covering the entire area. Her efforts draw hostility from the Kito Family, who accuse her of desecrating the sacred beast and seeking recognition for saving the village. Just as tensions escalate, the priest Manjiro from the Tsuchinoko shrine intervenes, revealing himself as a disciple of Seiko, sent by his master to protect Momo and her companions. As he fights off the Kito Family, Momo resumes hosing down the flames. However, her progress is violently interrupted once again, this time by the arrival of the Evil Eye. The spirit damages the Tsuchinoko's corpse and turns his wrath upon the Kito Family. Reacting quickly, Momo uses her powers to protect Manjiro and the Kito Family matriarch from the attack. She then pleads with the spirit to stop using Jiji's body to harm others and demands to know Okarun's whereabouts, only for the Evil Eye to refuse to give an answer. The Kito Family matriarch blames Momo for the calamity, prompting her to urge the matriarch to set aside her resentment just as the Evil Eye lunges toward them once more.
Momo, Manjiro, and the Kito Family matriarch collaborate to fight off the Evil Eye, but their combined strength proves insufficient as the spirit overwhelms them. Just as he lunges toward Momo for a decisive strike after his grudge ball disables her psychic powers, the Dover Demon appears in the nick of time to intercept the attack with a volley of punches. Momo then looks skyward to see Seiko and Taro descending down from the Dover Demon's spacecraft. They join the fray alongside Manjiro, coordinating their efforts against the raging spirit. Midst the fight, Taro is signaled by Seiko to encase the Evil Eye within himself, with Manjiro helping to the keep the Evil Eye sealed with a chant. With the situation settled, Seiko declares that it is time for them to return home.
While Chiquitita pilots the spacecraft and uses the Tsuchinoko's corpse to hose down the forest fire, Seiko chastises Manjiro for letting the situation escalate. However, when he explains that her phone message was sloppy, she relents, giving him credit for what he has managed to accomplish. Seiko then thanks Taro for his role in sealing the Evil Eye and casually suggest that he store his leftover organs in a bag for the time being. She then realizes Momo, Okarun, and Turbo Granny are missing.
Momo races back to the destroyed Enjoji house to rescue Okarun. Upon arrival, she becomes horrified to see the crater of the Tduchinoko's lair is now flooded with lava. Determined to rescue Okarun, she asks Chiquitita to use the Tsuchinoko's phlegm to cool the magma as she prepares to dive in. Chiquitita and the Dover Demon object to having her go through with this risky plan, much to Momo's refusal to do nothing. Instead, Chiquitita uses the spacecraft to extract a large magma rock from the lava pool and cools it with the Tsuchinoko's mucus. Momo pries it open and finds Okarun safely inside. While Turbo Granny complains that Momo took her sweet time, Okarun explains that the Tsuchinoko's phlegm created a protective buffer that shielded both him and the cat spirit from the molten heat. He then becomes concern for Jiji, to which Momo informs him that he managed to get out. As he out climbs out, his foot becomes snagged on the phlegm, resulting in him accidentally getting too close to Momo. Flustered, he quickly apologizes. However, Momo comes in to embrace him, confessing her regret for not reaching him sooner and her overwhelming relief that he is still alive.
