We Can All Stay There Together! (みんなでお泊まりじゃんよ Minna de Otomari jan yo?) is the seventeenth episode of the Dandadan anime series.
Synopsis[]
Momo succeeds in rescuing Okarun. Momo and the others return home safely but discover that Jiji is still possessed by the Evil Eye, and that if they pour cold water on him, he regains his evil eye, and if they pour hot water on him, he reverts back to Jiji. Momo and Okarun return to their normal lives, but as a countermeasure against the Evil Eye, Aira joins them, and they decide to stay the night at Momo's house.
Plot[]
At the Ayase residence, Momo, Seiko, and Manjiro engage in a ritual to exorcise the Evil Eye from Jiji while he is still within Taro but are ultimately unsuccessful as the evil spirit continues to possess Jiji and tell them that their efforts are futile.
Following the attempted exorcism, Momo, Okarun, Turbo Granny, Seiko, Aira, the Dover Demon, Chiquitita, Taro, Hana, and Manjiro dine together on oden. Aira questions to Momo why, as the self-appointed leader, was she excluded from the events in the village, to which Momo inquires why she is present with them at all. She then turns to the Dover Demon, asking why he has returned to Earth. The Dover Demon explains that he came back with his son because the cow he received was not producing milk and would not survive on his home planet. Meeting Chiqutita for the first time, Aira finds him cute and becomes prompted to hug him and accept his stay. Seiko discusses with Manjiro the possibility of hiring a team to effectively exorcise the Evil Eye from Jiji, such as the Rokken Sect, and ultimately settle on hayashi performers. However, Manjiro expresses his concerns about their reliability, given that Jiji's strong spiritual power will complicate the separation of the Evil Eye from him and that there may be consequence if the separation is successful. Taro then captures everyone's attention after reacting to the hot oden he ate. The group is taken aback when they hear Jiji's voice emanating from Taro, but Seiko urges caution, suspecting that the Evil Eye might be mimicking Jiji's voice to deceive them. She instructs Taro to open his face without removing the seal. Jiji is ultimately revealed to have returned to his normal state, and the young man is delighted to see everyone. Seiko deduces the cause of Jiji's return after splashing him with cold water, which expels the Evil Eye, and the hot oden soup that restores Jiji to normal once more.
Momo assesses Jiji's predicament, having learned from Seiko that the Evil Eye will manifest if Jiji comes into contact with cold water, while hot water will reverse the possession and restore Jiji to his normal state. After Momo kicks Jiji for trivializing the situation by singing, Taro winces in pain since he is still holding Jiji and questions how long he must endure this, as it interferes with his time with Hana. Seiko informs Taro that she has established a curfew for him and Hana, and bows her head in apology to Jiji, Okarun, and Momo for inadvertently involving them with the Evil Eye. The Turbo Granny chastises them for their naivety, explaining that they cannot hope to control the Evil Eye, a formidable yokai, and that they have merely avoided disaster since the Evil Eye possessing Jiji is still in its infancy. To prevent the Evil Eye from emerging, Seiko tells Jiji that she and Manjiro will keep an eye on him while he remains in Kamigoe City, hands hot water thermoses to Momo and Okarun for them to splash on Jiji in case the Evil Eye is brought out, and instructs Jiji to steer clear of any cold water nearby. Momo and Okarun then remind each other to stay alert until the next exorcism to prevent another encounter with the Evil Eye. Momo, along with Okarun and Aira, bids farewell to the Dover Demon and Chiquitita as they prepare to return home, expressing gratitude for their assistance. Before departing, Momo inquiries about the Dover Demon's true name and discovers it is "Peeny-Weeny", but Momo, Okarun, and Aira decide to continue calling him "Mantisian" as they watch him and son take off on their ship to return home, which they find out is nearby.
The following day, Seiko, Manjiro, Momo, Okarun, Taro, and Jiji set out to visit Jiji's parents in the hospital. During the drive, Momo shares a playful moment with Okarun, lightly touching his hand after he accidentally brushes against hers, causing both to blush until Jiji interrupts, complaining to Momo about Taro's refusal to move as he wishes. Momo contemplates whether they ought to buy a gift for Jiji's parents, leading Seiko to realize that it is indeed important. She expresses hope that a supermarket is close by, to which Manjiro responds that there is one near the hospital, much to Seiko's relief. While Momo expresses her hopes that Jiji's parent are better, Jiji believes them being sick is a nice change of pace from their usual selves. Momo interprets Jiji's comment as him being cold and putting on a brave face, to which Jiji denies. However, upon reaching the hospital, Jiji feels overwhelmed with emotion at the sight of his parents once more. Momo then instructs Taro to move his body to fit the moment, resulting in the anatomical model having Jiji move awkward due to the difficultly being away from his body. Meanwhile, the hospital's television broadcasts that the wildfire threatening Jiji's village has been contained, and the police have apprehended the Kito Family for their offenses, although they are still searching for the leader of the Kito Family, Naki Kito.
As she evades her pursuers, Naki becomes frustrated that her 200-year plan to feed the Tsuchinoko was ruined and removes her disguise, revealing her true identity as a Subterranean, and vows to take revenge on Momo in the name of her people.
The next day, Momo meets Okarun on their way to school and informs him about the exorcism that the hayashi performers will conduct. Before asking Okarun for a favor, they are met by Miko and Muko, who share news about the volcano in Jiji's village and the sighting of Mantisian's spacecraft. At school, Aira faces rejection from her friends and classmates after she had previously revealed the truth regarding the false rumor about Momo. She is then approached by Momo and Okarun, with Momo wanting to speak with her privately outside. After leading Okarun and Aira outside, Momo asks them to sleepover at her house to keep an eye on Jiji in case he becomes uncontrollable as the Evil Eye, and to give her grandmother a break from watching him. Okarun and Aira response with hesitation to take her up on her offer but immediately comply to assist her after Momo reassures them that it is fine if they choose not to help. Momo grows worried about Aira, thinking she might be the cause of Aira's issues with her friends, but Aira denies this and clarifies that the blame lies with her.
Later, Seiko allows Taro to free himself from Jiji once the talismans lose their power, advises Jiji to be more careful around water, and provides Momo, Okarun, and Aira with a thermos of hot water to use on Jiji if he transforms into the Evil Eye. The group then sits down for dinner, but disaster strikes when the Evil Eye flips the table after a drop of soy sauce touches Jiji from Okarun passing it over to Seiko.
