Hey, It's a Kaiju (怪獣じゃんよ Kaijū jan yo?) is the twenty-third episode of the Dandadan anime series.

Synopsis[]

Kinta's quick thinking lets Momo and Okarun defeat the invisible "something" that has a golden ball. Its optical camouflage wears off, and out comes a space kaiju. The trio is then attacked by the now-gigantic space kaiju. The entire town is enveloped in a pitch-black dimension, and Aira and Jiji get wrapped up as well.

Plot[]

As the kaiju relentlessly pursues them, Momo, Okarun, and the classmate flee in panic and realize that the monster is an alien based on the sky darkening. Meanwhile, Aira notices the that she is in pocket dimension, indicating to her that an alien is around, and is met by Jiji, who assumes that he is the cause of the phenomenon. Aira reassures him that the strange occurrence is not his fault and suggests that the meet up with Momo. The two the run into Momo, Okarun, and the classmate, with Momo frantically warning them of the kaiju heading their way, much to Aira and Jiji's shock. Amidst the turmoil, a classmate stumbles and falls, looking up in fear as the kaiju gets ready to crush him. Just in the nick of time, Momo, Aira, and Okarun step in to save him. Momo quickly tells Jiji to take the classmate to safety at her home while she, Aira, and Okarun prepare to confront the kaiju directly. Aira criticizes Momo for taking charge, asserting her own role as the leader of their group, and echoes Momo's instruction to Jiji.

In her Acrobatic Silky form, Aira attacks the kaiju with her hair but realizes its resilience when her strike fails to leave a mark. Momo deduces that the kaiju was an invisible speed type before it grew and has now transformed into a power type. After explaining how the kaiju utilizes melee attacks to amplify its strength post-growth, Aira wraps her Acrobatic Silky hair around the kaiju's head, trying to bring it down. However, the kaiju maintains its balance and retaliates by firing an electrical energy beam from its nose horn. After taking cover from the blast, Aira uses her hair to throw a car at the kaiju's head. Momo commends Aira and receives orders to target its legs and urged to refer to her as leader. Momo follows the instructions given to her by using her psychic abilities to throw a car, yet she refuses to acknowledge Aira as the 'leader'. The kaiju topples forward due to Momo's assault and retaliates by swinging its tail at both Momo and Okarun. Aira reprimands Momo for being caught in the attack and insists on demonstrating how a leader should fight, using her hair to guide a crane towards the kaiju as an offensive move. While trying to assert her dominance over Momo, Aira is seized by the kaiju and injured when it squeezes her. Momo retaliates by throwing billboards at the kaiju, chastising Aira for her persistent self-identification as the leader, and offers Aira a chance to escape the kaiju's grip. Although Aira claims that Momo's attacks are ineffective, Momo encourages her to assist. Initially, Aira refuses but quickly changes her mind after Momo challenges her ability to demonstrate teamwork as a leader. The kaiju starts to demolish nearby buildings, leaving Okarun puzzled about its target, and releases another electrical beam. As Momo uses her powers to protect herself and Okarun from the beam, Okarun theorizes that the kaiju is a descendant of a dinosaur that adapted to survive in space, suggesting that the electrical energy beam and its camouflage might be a transformation of some unknown cosmic energy. With this insight, Okarun tells Momo that they might be able to stop it by aiming for its light source. While Aira agrees to distract the kaiju, Momo harnesses her psychic abilities to seize the electrical beam and redirect it back at the kaiju, inflicting damage and causing it to collapse. Aira then gets ready to launch a counterattack. However, she notices that the kaiju has vanished, leading her to believe it has fled. Momo corrects her, informing Aira that the kaiju is still present and warns her about its invisibility as its massive footsteps become apparent. Aira manages to dodge the kaiju's invisible attacks but fails to react on time to its electrical beam attack, much to Momo's and Okarun's distress.

As Jiji carries him to safety, the classmate becomes increasingly torn by the chaos surrounding them. Fearing the emergence of the Evil Eye, Jiji cautions him not to sweat on him. Misunderstanding this as vanity, the classmate intentionally touches Jiji, causing him to drop him and suppress the yokai within. Jiji warns him not to pull that stunt again, but the classmate disregards his warning and sprays his sweat on him, which allows the Evil Eye to resurface. Shocked by Jiji's transformed appearance, the yokai questions who stands before him and impulsively throws Jiji's backpack away. The classmate wonders if he is like Okarun but receives no response from the Evil Eye as he begins to walk away. The Evil Eye dismisses the classmate's requests to take him to Momo's house until he mentions her name and their plan to meet there. Interpreting this as a cue to confront Okarun once more, the Evil Eye bolts off in excitement, with the classmate sprinting after him to avoid being left behind.

Using All-Out, Okarun hurries to rescue Aira from another direct attack by the kaiju. Unfortunately, this leads to him reverting to his normal form after depleting his last bit of energy. Momo uses her psychic abilities to catch both of them midair and moves them away from the kaiju trying to crush them. After the kaiju falls down from being struck by Jiji's bag thrown by the Evil Eye earlier, Momo takes Okarun and an unconscious Aira to her home. Upon their arrival, exhausted, she finds out that Aira had been pretending to be unconscious just to cling to Okarun, which causes Momo to angrily separate them for making her overexert herself. Their annoyance is interrupted by the sudden appearance of the Evil Eye, who expresses his eagerness to fight. To his dismay, Okarun informs the Evil Eye that they are not scheduled to battle today. Momo suggests that Okarun ask the Evil Eye for assistance in their fight against the kaiju, but he dismisses this idea, stating that the yokai is bound by his promise to only engage him in combat and that the Evil Eye is too unpredictable if given the freedom to ignore this. After Momo tells Okarun that Seiko is away on a job for a television show, she realizes they are in a crisis if it is just her and Aira fighting back. As she leans against the wall, feeling down and unsure of how to counter the monster's weakness, Okarun notices the glowing nanoskin walls of the house. When the classmate panics at the sight of the approaching kaiju, Momo and Aira prepare to confront it together while having Okarun look after the Evil Eye and the classmate. However, Okarun tells Momo that he has just devised a plan to use the nanoskin of the house against the kaiju.

As the kaiju approaches, Okarun urgently shares his plan with Momo, Aira, the Evil Eye, and the male classmate inside the house. He proposes using the nanoskin material of the Ayase house to reshape it into a weapon capable of fighting the kaiju. Attempting to visualize something large and powerful, Okarun manipulates the nanoskin, but his lack of precision nearly causes the house to collapse on the group. Seeing the danger, the classmate, revealing his name to be Kinta Sakata, steps in, confident that his sci-fi expertise will make him better suited for the task. He takes control of the visualization process and successfully transforms the house into a massive mechanical Buddha statue, complete with individual cockpits for each member of the team. However, Kinta is immediately disappointed that it is not the mecha he had imagined. Momo reveals that she inadvertently influenced the final design after visualizing the Buddha as something enormous. Despite the unexpected result, Kinta is thrilled to be piloting a mecha and proudly names it the "Great Kinta Bodhisattva, Zeta Version". As he prepares to launch the counterattack against the kaiju, Momo poses the question of how they are meant to make the mecha operational.
