Hase (ハセ Hase?) is a student at Kami High who was a bully to Okarun in Class 2-C.

In Dandadan, he had no significant role during the Kintama Hunt Saga, but soon reemerged in the Current Saga during the Kozuka Knives Arc as a major antagonist, having been given Jumping Crone's power by an unknown individual to exact his petty revenge on Okarun for inadvertently ridiculing him at school.

Appearance[]

Hase has medium-length brown hair that's parted in the middle and falls to the sides of his face. For attire, he wears his school's gakuran outfit.

Personality[]

Hase is a mean student at Kami High who favors bullying his classmate Okarun. However, he has shown himself to be quite cowardly, as he stopped his bullying when confronted by Momo's intimidating glare. Much like Aira's character at the beginning of the series, Hase projects an air of confidence, arrogance, and bravado, largely stemming from his former popularity with the female students. He felt emboldened to approach two girls, brazenly flipping their hair and interrupting their conversation. His inflated ego also drove him to wanting to assert his dominance during gym class by eagerly selecting Okarun as his partner, perceiving him as a weakling who could make him look good. However, after Okarun outperformed him and took away his popularity as a result, Hase became a resentful individual and prone to violent bursts of anger.

Background[]

Since the beginning, Hase made fun of Okarun's passion for the occult and stole his magazine while mocking him, saying that people who believe stupid conspiracies like those should just die. Okarun quietly submitted to the bully so Hase and his friends kept making fun of him every single day, until Momo showed up in her classroom and made them stop with an intimidating glance.

Synopsis[]

Kintama Hunt Saga[]

Turbo Granny Arc[]

Hase picks on Okarun with his friends by throwing paper balls at him but stops after Momo Ayase sits in front of Okarun and glares at the boys.

Cursed House Arc[]

Hase, a boy and two girls sneak in Kami High at night to have a séance with the school spirits and he teases the girls by making up fake noises. Suddenly they hear somebody running towards them and they flash the hallway, revealing Taro approaching them at full speed. Frightened, they escape outside and Hase stumbles and falls while the others manage to get away, even though the anatomical model wasn't chasing them and only wanted to go reunite with Hana at the Ayase Residence.

Space Globalists Arc[]

Hase quietly watches with the rest of the class the new transfer student Bamora, who it's said to come from India, being taught their language by Okarun and Kinta.

Current Saga[]

Kozuka Knives Arc[]

During gym class, Hase asks Okarun to be his partner for physical fitness, confident that he can outrun Okarun easily due to his impressive track time of 6 seconds. However, Okarun quickly outruns him, even beating his record by 0.2 seconds, much to Hase's shock. Following this, Okarun surprisingly manages to outperform the rest of his classmates, causing Hase to wonder aloud how Okarun suddenly became athletic. Later, Hase hears a mysterious voice tempting him to get revenge on Okarun, claiming that Okarun has special abilities and that he can acquire power too and steal Okarun's by using the Asura knives in front of him. Following this, Hase goes about his day as normal while remaining uncertain whether he should heed the voice's instructions. However, when he discovers that two girls are attracted to Okarun upon his approach and is treated as a reject by them and fellow students, Hase becomes prompted to test the voice's claims by cutting himself with the Asura. When he experiences no immediate effects, he initially dismisses the voice as deceitful, only to later sense a presence behind him, signaling the emergence of his newfound powers.

Later, Hase allies with the alien survivor of the Kur's Advance Unit after learning that she too has also been assigned with the task of stealing Okarun's powers. At the entrance to the Kami High gymnasium, Hase uses the Crone's powers to attack Okarun and Kinta after they arrived, along with Aira, to help Rin and Koki. He and the exosuit alien then confront and chase after the duo around the building. After landing a strong kick to Okarun, who deploys the airbag gauntlets given to him by Kinta to cushion his crash, Hase deactivates his yokai form, taking note at how exhausting it is for him to maintain it and the discomfort it causes to his feet. Hase expresses his frustration to the exosuit alien, stating that her movements are obstructing his efforts to confront Okarun and demands for her to target Kinta instead. While the exosuit alien disregards his request to fine-tune her exosuit, Hase emphasizes their shared mission but, as he re-activates his yokai form, reveals that his primary goal is revenge against Okarun and cautions her to avoid interfering or she might become his enemy as well. After the exosuit alien proceeds to target Okarun, refusing to comply to Hase's orders, Hase is left no choice but to fight against Kinta who is now wearing a miniature Great Kinta as a combat suit.

Noticing his ally almost killing Okarun, he gets enraged and leaves Kinta behind to stop her in her tracks. He again declares that he would be the one to hurt Takakura, but because the lady doesn't seem to back down, he states that he will kill her if she attempts to get in his way again. He kicks her upwards before getting above her and jumping downwards, crushing her to the ground. She's immobilized while Hase continues to plummel her with yokai powered jumps until she's beat to a pulp. Kinta and Okarun see this opportunity to merge in one singular robot and combine their strengths, although the suit is obviously constructed for the former's better control. Hase launches her down the field and mocks her after she's unable to get up due to the series of attacks he gave her, again stating that she mustn't interfere. Hase is suddenly ambushed by the ridiculous robot of the two boys and he weaves their punch, baffled by Okarun's behavior as he thinks he's ridiculing him. Hase uses the Crone powers to blast them away but Kinta orders Okarun to use the verniers and he does just so, successfully parrying his attack. Kinta even performs a Blast Wind, Thrust Attack, however Hase is just too fast to land a hit and the latter insults Okarun since it appears to him that he's holding back his powers against him and rushes him to manifest them. Hase makes quick work of them, leading Okarun to realize that merging was a bad move because of the added weight and nanoskin, flabbergasting Kinta since he always believed the contrary due to the mecha series he loved watching growing up.

Hase is furious because he believes Okarun is underestimating him by fighting him in that silly robot. Okarun and Kinta throw a second Blast Wind, Thrust Attack, but this time Hase lands on the fist with his rebound mechanism, completely breaking their arm. Kinta easily recovers by calling his hand and reforms it with the nanoskin, frustrating Hase who immediately tries to counter but he gets kicked away by Okarun's pile bunkers. Hase shouts at him, feeling very insulted, meanwhile Okarun and Kinta struggle to deal any serious damage to their low quantity of nanoskin. Kinta screams out about his passion which bestows him inspiration, throwing a punch, yet Hase effortlessly kicks them up in the sky and declares that weaklings who act prideful and try to stand up to him will get punished. As he says this, he jumps from multiple directions in the air and pierces the Great Kinta from multiple sides and finishes it off with one last kick. Upon seeing Hase up close, Okarun is reminded about the time he was reading his occult magazines in class and the bully approached him, taking it from him and making fun of him. Okarun quietly backed off as Hase affirmed that people who believed these stupid conspiracies was better off dead and they all laughed at him. He grabs Hase while screaming about his passion just like Kinta and the fact that most of the theories he read were confirmed, although Hase is focused on detaching him, repeatedly punching him. The three merge and Hase is shocked since he can't move his legs due to the nanoskin in the way. The bully keeps shouting at the duo to let go of him but they boost themselves upward and dive down onto the ground, crushing Hase under their weight, defeating him.

Seeing Hase laying unconscious and the Jumping Crone's powers getting reabsorbed into him. the alien recovers and sets off into the sky, followed by Okarun and Kinta celebrating their victory. As they drag Hase back to the gym, Aira and Rin appear after their fight and the latter hugs Okarun, making him blush.

Shimane Arc[]

After the police and the ambulance arrives, Hase gets dragged inside and put onto a bed. Okarun asks about Hase's conditions to the others but Kinta exclaims that they shouldn't care about him. At the same time, Hase regains consciousness, screaming out and wondering where he is while a paramedic asks him to calm down.

Abilities and Powers[]

Supernatural Abilities[]

Jumping Crone Form [v · e]
Hase wields the abilities of Jumping Crone obtained from an Asura knife. Similar to other users of yokai powers, the activation of his abilities is represented by a mask, which also brings about a slight change in his personality, causing him to take on an aggressive demeanor.
Unlike the masks worn by Okarun, Aira, or Unji, Hase's mask envelops his entire face, concealing it completely. It takes on a demonic design, featuring horns on the forehead, sinister eye slits, and a gaping dark mouth with sharp teeth. Beyond the mask, his hair lightens and becomes flame-like, his ears become large and elfish, his nails darken, and his legs become noticeably muscular with spring systems (a mechanism associated with rebound shoes) on the soles of his feet. Completing his transformation is a dark, flaming scarf that coils around his neck.
Hase's power
Enhanced Jumping
Hase Enhanced Jump
In this form, Hase gains enhanced jumping power derived from the strength of his muscular legs and the spring systems integrated into his feet.
Strengths and Weaknesses

Hase's jumping abilities allows him to unleash kicks that are strong enough to propel him through the air. These powerful movements enable him to navigate effortlessly through midair and maintain suspension for extended periods, creating an experience that closely resembles flight.

Hase reveals that the use of this power is very energy consuming and taxing on his legs, and as such, he has to deactivate his transformation at times to regain his stamina.

Usage

Hase uses this power for combat, with the propulsion force of his springs allowing him to close in on his enemies and attack them with augmented kicks. His attacks become increasingly powerful when he gains elevation to launch himself at his opponent, and if his opponent is down on the ground, he can relentlessly assault them with spring-loaded jumps.

Trivia[]

  • While the boy in chapter 31 looks really similar to Hase, the anime version of the scene which is animated in Episode 12 doesn't seem to correspond with Hase. This might be an incongruency.
  • In episode 24, it is revealed that Hase was also bullying Kinta because of his robot obsession.
  • According to Dandadan Daizukan[1]:
    • He likes group chats.
    • He dislikes poor cost/time perfomance.
    • His hobbies are futsal.

Notes[]

  1. Hase is in a second-year class at Kami High, suggesting that his age is 16 or 17.
