The Hastur Kur is the leader of the Kur's Advance Unit.
In Dandadan, he serves as one of the two primary antagonists during the Space Globalists Arc, alongside Reiko Kashima.
Appearance[]
The Kur has a very distinct appearance that differs from his race's octopus physiology. He has a large head with a veined forehead and bulbous eyes that are closed. Unlike his brethren, he possesses more tentacle-like appendages connected to his head that are thinner and longer and a small mouth. Overall, he resembles more like a jellyfish than an octopus.
Personality[]
The Hastur Kur has a very greedy and possessive personality, claiming that everything he comes across are his and his alone, and takes action by stealing whatever catches his interest. To this extent, he does not take it lightly when others destroy his possessions. He is shown to be cold-hearted and sadistic when carrying out his people's objective of conquering planets, which he describes as "hunting". After Bamora had escaped from Sumer with Banga's help, the Hastur Kur declared to Banga that he would be persistent enough to track her daughter down to the ends of the cosmos to kill her and would use her head to adorn the top of the Sumer pyramid. His remorseless behavior also includes the use of psychological warfare to get his enemies to submit, as he was sure of himself that Banga would comply to open a portal to Earth for his team by torturing Aja right in front of her. The Hastur Kur views his race as a superior species and deems all life within the galaxy to be "lower lifeforms". As such, he arrogantly believes that all organisms should at least understand that it is a futile effort to try and resist him and the invading army, having failed to comprehend why Kinta wouldn't give up in trying to reconstruct his mecha as the former began crushing the pilot core. Despite this view, he has good judgement in identify lifeforms who are strong, which, like his teammates, fuels his interests in operating powerful battle suits that can be crafted from their essence.
Background[]
The Hastur Kur took part in the invasion of Sumer. Years later, he and his team caught Banga using the Sumerian pyramid to transport Bamora to Earth in the midst of a rebellion between the enslaved male Sumerians and the Kur. Having realized that only a Sumerian is capable of activating the portal, the Hastur Kur threatened to torture Banga's colleague Aja if she did not comply with him in sending them to Earth to track down Bamora.
Synopsis[]
Space Globalists Arc[]
After arriving on Earth, the Hastur Kur and his team encountered and launched an attack on the Serpo and defeated them, resulting in them being rewarded with their data, which included their findings on Okarun's kintama, and technology. At the same time, he receives a signal from Bamora's exosuit that was accidentally triggered by Jiji.
Later, the Hastur Kur and his team confront Okarun to acquire his kintama that they plan to use as a battery to summon their main force. Using his suit's spatial carving ability, the Hastur Kur deals a devastating blow to Okarun that results in him losing conscious. With the kintama acquired, the Hastur Kur and his team prepare to leave the area through a portal and decide to also take Okarun with them to perform an investigation on his internal anatomy. However, their exit is interrupted by Mr. Mantis Shrimp who arrives to save Okarun. The Hastur Kur stops the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur from fighting him, telling his teammate that they don't have the time, and leaves with his team without Okarun in their possession, but not before threatening to target Mr. Mantis Shrimp the next time they meet.
A few days later, the Advance Unit activates their warp gate to allow passage for their main force's battleships. The Hastur Kur, along with the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur and Ta Koshin Jo Kur, confront Momo, Rokuro, and Bamora as they attempt to close the gate. After Bamora defeats the Ta Koshin Jo Kur, the Hastur Kur gives the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur a weapon that electrically restrains her. He then takes Bamora out of her suit, claiming it for himself, and pierces her abdomen with his tail, much to Momo's horror. After Rokuro saves Bamora with a healing syringe, the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur holds up Bamora by the neck as the Hastur Kur gives credit to her for helping the Kur find a new planet to conquer. Momo sends a tree towards the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur to have him release Bamora and prepares to fight the two Kur members. The Hastur Kur puts Momo on the defense as he sends her psychic rubble attacks back at her and clashes with her Moe-Moe Tri Beam, resulting in both of their attacks to repel each other, which confirmed to him that Momo was a strong opponent to face. The Hastur Kur then receives reinforcements from the Kur members who had passed through the gate, causing Momo and Bamora to be overwhelmed. However, the two girls are saved by Okarun, Aira, Mr. Mantis Shrimp, and the Evil Eye who prepare to face the Kur together.
The Hastur Kur supports the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur with his spatial power as he fights Okarun. Momo prevents Okarun from falling for his tricks and informs him of how the Kur's ability works. After the Jet Booster Exosuit Kur is blown away by an attack from Okarun, the Hastur Kur fights Momo and Okarun alone and manages to render their attacks useless. Seeing Momo heading his way with a ton of controlled rubble, the Hastur Kur sends them away to his dimension, along with Momo who jumps at him. This results in the Kur's battle suit being destroyed with a Moe Moe Tri-Beam projecting out, as Momo tricked him into sending her to his dimension to unleash her attack that is capable of transcending dimensions. Refusing to allow her to get the best of him, the Hastur Kur prepares to attack Momo as she jumps out from his damaged suit. However, the Hastur Kur is defeated by Okarun after he uses a powerful charging attack to completely destroy his suit and save Momo.
Furious that his battle suit had been destroyed, the Kur chooses to steal Bamora's and activates its Slaughter Mode after becoming its new pilot. After ejecting her out, the Kur finds himself facing against Kinta, who saves Bamora from falling, after he constructs a mecha using the nanoskin the Ayase house is made of. In response to being attacked with the Tokyo Tower by Kinta as a swinging weapon, the Kur does the same using the Tokyo Skytree, pointing out that his tower is longer than his, but loses the exchange as Kinta points out how his tower is more superior. Despite this, the Kur states to Kinta that his attacks have done no damage to his suit, which he becomes impressed by its resilience, and uses its horns to destroy the mecha. He then proceeds to extract the pilot core out of the mecha that is holding Kinta and Bamora inside. As he starts to crush it with his hand, the Kur declares the Earth to be his race's property once more battleships have passed through the gate and tells Kinta to give up as he tries to resist by controlling the nanoskin. The Kur crushes the pod but realizes too late that Kinta and Bamora had secretly ejected onto his back to form a jetpack that they control to send him soaring up in the sky and rocketing down with a devastating powerbomb technique. With the suit returning to normal from taking too much damage, the Kur leaves out of it while feeling dizzy from the impact.
