Ki (気) is a type of energy that allows individuals to harness their own spiritual power.
Overview[]
Momo awakening her spiritual power as a result of her tapping into her ki.
Ki is known to flow within humans and lies dormant in their bodies, specifically below the navel. People can only awaken their ki by undergoing the proper training. The awakening process differs from individual to individual. Momo, albeit reluctantly, adhered to Seiko's guidance to activate her ki daily during her childhood, but had only managed to accomplish this by the time she entered her teenage years, influenced by the Serpo, who overstimulated her brainwaves and triggered memories of her grandmother's previous teachings. Conversely, Jiji, regarded as a prodigy, was able to tap into his ki within a short amount of time after undergoing the same training regimen as Momo from Seiko. Unlocking one's ki results in the individual having access to their spiritual power.
According to Seiko, ki also flows within spirits, having advised Jiji to use Spiral Power to unite his ki with the Evil Eye's in order to have access to the yokai's power.[1]
Training[]

Training to harness ki requires concentrating energy beneath the navel and imagining it radiating from the top of the head. In Jiji's training, Seiko refers to this visualization as 'laser beams' projecting outwards and adds that it should also be directed towards the fingertips. To facilitate this visualization, Momo was instructed by Seiko to perform a hand gesture where she had to raise her index and middle finger and position it on the top of her head. For Jiji, Seiko directed him to sit in seiza and concentrate on the visualization to prevent himself from being moved by force.

Usage[]
The use of ki centers on directing the spiritual energy either throughout the entire body or concentrating it to certain areas for specific purposes. This flow is known to help suppress negative influences, such as curses, affecting the user or others. In combat, ki can be weaponized as well, with at least one known offensive technique documented.
Curse Suppression[]

Harnessing ki is known to help suppress the effects of a curse afflicting the user, such as a yokai possession. However, this technique is highly taxing, visibly straining the user's stamina as they struggle to maintain control. Currently, the only known practitioner of this method is Jiji, who was taught to harness his ki specifically to resist possession by the Evil Eye within him. This resistance becomes crucial when he comes into contact with cold liquids, the trigger for his curse.
A ki user can also apply this to other cursed individuals. By channeling ki to his hands and covering her ears, Jiji was able to suppress Reiko Kashima's curse afflicting Momo, successfully blocking out whatever noise, audible only to Momo, the yokai was making from the other side, although he had to remain with her and keep the technique active until the yokai departed.
Healing[]
Ki can be applied as a healing technique by channeling the energy into a damaged body, though its effects are limited to easing pain and mild discomfort, and lacks the capacity to mend internal injuries, such as broken bones. Noticing the effects of Seiko's medication causing her to feel exhausted, Jiji believed that by using his ki, he could perhaps help ease her discomfort, but was met with confrontation from the Kito Family before he had a chance to do so. He later applied this technique on Seiko after defeating Enenra.
Palm Wave[]
A palm wave (
At its basic level, the palm wave lacks sufficient force to inflict damage. However, with advanced ki refinement, or through other methods, the technique can evolve into a focused energy beam capable of penetrating even reinforced defenses. Master-level practitioners can even manipulate the wave to phase through obstacles and strike targets behind cover. Jiji demonstrated this on the plane to Shimane after learning about this capability from Seiko, using it to repel an airborne shark toward the Typhoon Human. Later, he applied the same control to his Evil Gun to successfully expel the smoke yokai Enenra out from his body, having fired the palm wave on himself.
