History[]
Past[]
In ancient times in Byakuja Village, the Kito Family participated in the practice of sacrificing village children as nourishment to a Mongolian Death Worm dwelling within the adjacent volcano, believing it to be the legendary Tsuchinoko that safeguarded the village from volcanic eruptions provided that its unquenchable appetite was appeased. This ritual persisted for 200 years, with the sacrificial altar evolving into a residence that the Kito Family rents out to families who would become the next sacrifices.
During the modern era, the Kitos intended to designate the Enjoji family as their latest sacrifices after granting them residency at the sacrificial house. However, this scheme was postponed after the parents were hospitalized due to a suicide attempt, an incident that their son Jiji believed was the cause of an evil spirit that haunted him in his house, prompting him to seek aid from Seiko Ayase to exorcise it.
Kintama Hunt Saga[]
Cursed House Arc[]
The Kito Family caught Jiji returning to the sacrificial house with Momo Ayase and Okarun. After Momo left to relax in the village hot springs, the male members of the Kito Family attempted to ambush her there, while the female members invited themselves into the house. However, their plan failed when the hot springs collapsed on them, drawing the attention of the local chamber of commerce, who pursued them under the assumption that they were responsible for the destruction. With the help of police officer Tsuru, the male Kitos managed to regroup with the female members back at the house. There, tensions escalated when the family confronted Jiji and Okarun, having caught Jiji lying to them about not bringing a girl over. Shortly after, Momo returned, only to be attacked by the Kito Family, who revealed themselves as the perpetrators behind the ancient sacrificial rituals and declare her, Okarun, and Jiji to be their next offerings. The Kitos forced Momo into the hidden chamber where the Tsuchinoko resided beneath and prevented her from escaping as she began to sink into the floor. However, they end up being sent to the lair as well after Okarun and Jiji pushed them into the chamber. Upon encountering the Tsuchinoko, the Kito Family attempted to present themselves as its emissaries to avoid being mistaken for sacrifices, only for the creature to devour them regardless.
Later, after Momo exposed the Tsuchinoko to sunlight and caused it to desiccate, the creature vomited up the Kito Family. Naki became furious with Momo, knowing that the Tsuchinoko's death would trigger the village volcano's eruption, which happened just as she expected. Following Naki's uttering of the village legend, Momo revealed that Naki's interpretation was flawed, believing that the preserved legend was not a divine mandate, but a distorted warning of an impending eruption. Thinking quickly, Momo decided to repurpose the dried body of the Tsuchinoko as a massive hose, connecting it to the hot spring's fountain to release the creature's phlegm onto the magma, using it as a cooling agent. The Kito Family, outraged by what they saw as a desecration of the Tsuchinoko and an insult to their role as its protectors, attempted to stop her. They were then met with resistance from Manjiro, the priest of the Tsuchinoko shrine, and the Evil Eye, a yokai born from one of the Kito Family's past sacrifices and the very spirit that had haunted Jiji in the house.
After the village was spared from the volcano's destruction, the Kito Family, with the exception Naki who managed to escape, were arrested. With their exile sealed and their ambitions to raise the Tsuchinoko to maturity destroyed, Naki blamed Momo for everything and vowed revenge. While still lurking in the area, she discovered a clutch of Mongolian Death Worms eggs left behind the Tsuchinoko. Choosing one, she fed it livestock to accelerate its growth, and once it reached a good enough size, she dried its body to carry with her, preparing to unleash it when the time came to exact her vengeance on Momo.
Current Saga[]
Typhoon Human Arc[]
After successfully securing the release of her sons from police custody, Naki led them in tracking down Momo and Jiji to the airport using the lingering scent on Momo's jacket that she had left behind in Byakuja Village. Following the trail, the Kito Family boarded the same plane bound for Shimane. Mid-flight, the Kitos launched a surprise attack on Jiji, only to be intercepted by his allies. To prevent harm to the other passengers, Jiji requested that Bamora transport both parties into Empty Space, a separate dimension where they could battle without involving the other passengers. Their clash was abruptly interrupted by the sudden arrival of the Typhoon Human, whose appearance caused severe damage to the aircraft. Faced with a greater threat, the Kito Family temporarily set aside their vendetta against Momo and Jiji to confront the UMA.
Using the Tsuchinoko hatchling she secretly smuggled onto the plane, Naki and her family mounted the creature and followed Momo and Jiji's lead to defeat the Typhoon Human by commanding the giant worm to swallow and launch the Typhoon Human's own frozen sharks back at it. Sensing this, the Typhoon Human retaliated by firing two sharks that pierced the Mongolian Death Worm's body, resulting in both the Kitos and the wounded worm drifting away from the plane. Momo then used her psychic powers to keep the worm airborne, allowing her, Jiji, Unji to ride it with the Kitos. When Momo's plan to have Jiji shoot the Typhoon Human's eye with his Eye Gun failed, due to the UMA's regenerative abilities, she quickly devised a new tactic. Though reluctant, Naki followed Momo's instructions, directing the Mongolian Death Worm to dive beneath the Typhoon Human. There, Jiji fired his Evil Gun into the sea, executing Momo's strategy to disrupt the water vapor that generated the Typhoon Human. With the Typhoon Human finally neutralized, Naki directed the Mongolian Death Worm to soar towards the Kito Family's hideout, intending for their enemies to serve as sacrifices. However, a massive flying shark appeared and swallowed them whole. In a final twist, the furious Evil Eye delivered a powerful kick to the shark, sending it, along with the Kitos, hurtling all the way to the moon.
After escaping from the belly of the giant shark, Naki looked around in confusion, questioning where they had landed. Meanwhile, her sons quickly observed that the environment had low gravity and a thin atmosphere. Naki then concluded that everything that happened was a scheme orchestrated by Momo, adding more fuel to her vendetta against her.
