WARNING! |
Koki Yukishiro (雪白幸姬 Yukishiro Kōki?) is a student at Kami High in Class 2-E and a skilled pianist. She has been given the power of the Lord of the Flies and she has the innate gift to perceive Pygmies, who decide to help her.
In Dandadan, she started out as a main antagonist during the first half of the Kozuka Knives Arc, having been threatened with blackmail by Murakami if she did not do his bidding in stealing Momo Ayase's powers.
Appearance[]
Koki is a slender young girl with long hair that obscures most of her face and her round eyes have large pupils. As a student, she wears the Kami High uniform; a dark buttoned up blazer with her school emblem located around the left breast, a collared shirt, a bow, long socks and sandals. Similar to Rin Sawaki, she wears a long dark skirt instead of the standard short skirt.
She later does her hair up, revealing that her eyes are naturally almond shaped, as well that she has rather small eyebrows.

Personality[]
Koki is a timid and dispirited girl. As a child, she took pride in her recognition as a talented pianist. After her time in the spotlight was replaced by a life of isolation from her peers, Koki longed to once again be acknowledged, even if the means were improper.
Background[]
As a child, Koki received accolades for her skills in playing the piano, distinguishing her as a prodigy to many. However, after losing to Aira Shiratori in the junior piano competition, she believed she had no talent and quit playing the piano.[1] By the time Koki reached high school, she found herself as an outcast by her classmates and even her own family with her younger sister Alice overshadowing her in talent.[2]
In an act of desperation to once again be acknowledged, Koki chose to post to her account an anonymous picture of herself undressed. Later, she was approached by an individual who recognized her as the girl in the photograph. Koki was then coerced by the person to do their bidding in locating Momo Ayase to usurp her powers using a small knife if she desired their silence.[3] After she consented to their terms, she was cut with a knife, which allowed her to see the pygmies, who accompanied Koki to ensure that she fulfilled her mission.
Synopsis[]
Current Saga[]
Kozuka Knives Arc[]
Koki targeting Momo for her power.
After one pygmy locates Momo Ayase in the library, Koki makes her move to search for her and steal her power once her friends have left the room. However, she ultimately runs out of time to complete her task after the school bell rings and makes a hasty retreat.[4] While alone, Koki is told by a mystery person in a locker that her approach was wrong since she did not make Momo yield first and is urged by them to give in to her desires to become the person she wants to be.[5]
Later, Koki finds herself locking eyes with Momo as the History and Culture Research Club tries searching for her after the shrunken girl informs them about what happened in the library. She then flees from the group and manages to hide herself inside an Empty Space classroom using a cloak that has her blend in with the environment.[6] Eventually, she is found and attacked by Momo using her psychic power to hurl a desk at her.[7] Following Momo's attack that renders her unconscious, the pygmies carry Koki out of the classroom in their escape. When they arrive at Queen's infirmary, where the nurse is also present in Empty Space, Koki tries to win Queen over by wrongfully accusing Jiji and the others of being the attackers. However, as the story Koki tells Queen begins to unravel, and upon the nurse's insistence on honesty, Koki admits to her misdeeds of attacking Momo. This then leads to Koki being angrily slapped by Queen for pretending to be the victim.[8]
Later, Koki explains to the History and Culture Research Club and Queen her reason for attacking Momo, revealing she had been blackmailed into doing so, but is unable to recall the identity of her blackmailer. She then suddenly experiences dizziness and inability to remember those conditions to respond to Aira's inquiry. Momo theorizes that Koki may simply be a pawn manipulated by the sinister teacher who sent her, suggesting that the teacher could have altered her memory to keep any information from surfacing. Koki elaborates that the teacher enabled her to perceive the pygmies by wounding her with one of his numerous knives. She then brushes the pygmies off her arm as they try to bandage her wound. Even though Momo clarifies that the pygmies genuinely want to help, Koki remains unwilling to acknowledge them or allow them to follow her, longing for a return to her ordinary life. As Koki becomes increasingly disheartened by her unfortunate situation, Queen discloses her research on the pygmies, explaining that these marginalized individuals have retreated underground, yearning for recognition and offering their allegiance to those who acknowledge them. Touched by this revelation and contemplating her own isolation, Koki becomes moved to tears, leading the pygmies to sew the phrase "Hang in there, Koki" as a sign of encouragement. Aira and Momo advises everyone to stick together to prevent the enemy from exploiting any vulnerabilities and to keep an eye on Koki in case the enemy targets her again, presenting an opportunity to ambush their foe and erase Koki's image. After Koki gives out her name to Aira as requested, Aira realizes she knows Koki, remembering that she lost to her in a childhood piano competition—an event that motivated her to work hard and eventually win. Koki also recognizes Aira and becomes shocked and frustrated to learn from her that she quit the piano due to finding it tedious.
Koki voices her discomfort about needing to change out of her school uniform, which has become unwearable after being doused in white from the fire extinguisher. When Aira comments on her consistently sorrowful demeanor, Koki retorts, asking Aira to be quiet. While wearing a nanoskin surveillance camera made by Kinta as a hair ornament, Koki is monitored by the History and Culture Research Club and comes into contact with at least three teachers as suspects — Queen, Adachi, and Sanjome. After school, Koki reunites with Murakami and follows him to the school gym where he has the Severed Head Dribblers convert her, along with Rin spying on them, into floating heads, having caught onto their trap.
After Aira arrives with Okarun and Kinta to help the girls, Koki has her body returned to her thanks to Mai and the pygmies. Koki then reveals that the identity of her blackmailer is Murakami. As the situation becomes worse with the Severed Head Dribblers growing gigantic, the gym walls closing in, and Rin's power gradually weakening, Koki turns to the pygmies for help in finding Murakami to end the chaos, while also apologizing to them for her previous mistreatment. After their search, she learns from the pygmies that Murakami is not inside the gym and informs Aira. Just as she starts to feel powerless not being able to help Aira and Rin fight the Severed Head Dribblers, Koki is presented with a piano instantly constructed by the pygmies and is urged by Aira, Rin, and Mai to play, believing that Rin's power can be amplified if she does so. Koki finds herself unable to play properly due to the memories of her mother's teachings resurfacing and the piano being one she is not accustomed to. However, after Aira reveals her past admiration for Koki and wish for her to reignite her passion she once had, Koki becomes able to play a heart wrenching melody that summons a swarm of flies ominously gathering over Kamigoe City.
Mai realizes that Koki's power is not control over the pygmies and it doesn't amplify Rin's singing, but the ability to make small living things obey her, which she recognizes as the "Lord of the flies". While the bugs overwhelm the Severed Head Dribblers, a swarm of flies attacks Murakami in his apartment who's currently confronting Adachi and her jiangshis. With nowhere to go, Murakami yields to Adachi and stabs himself with the kozuka knife, losing his Severed Head Dribblers' power, making them disappear from the gym. The bugs then lift the teacher towards the window and crash into it, bringing him to the school. After noticing that they have won, Koki collapses and Aira holds her, telling her to be strong while the former reassures her that she just felt dizzy. Suddenly, the flies break through the gym and leave Murakami on the floor, who realizes where he is and tries to fake his way out, although Aira doesn't fall for it and kicks him, demanding to delete Koki's nude photos.
Typhoon Human Arc[]
Following the battle against the Severed Head Dribblers and after Okarun and Kinta defeat Hase and the alien, the police is called and Murakami gets handcuffed and brought to the police station. Koki informs the cop that the teacher had threatened her of spreading pictures of her in her underwear, so he suggests to go rest and return the following day to write a detailed statement. Queen, who was standing next to her, wonders how she feels and reassures her that she did the right thing, however Koki believes it's all her fault since she was the one who posted the pictures online to receive attention in the first place.
Shimane Arc[]
After Manjiro receives permission from Queen, the group enters the infirmary and has dinner together, with Koki being taught how to cook the instant noodles they brought and how to peel off the plastic from the onigiri by Rin, enjoying their meal together while the boys discuss about the mysterious orchestrator sending agents after them.

This power allows Koki to command small living creatures by playing the piano. Her manipulation primarily focuses on insects, with flies being the most notable subjects of her control. Rather than issuing vocal commands, Koki's influence is conveyed through the melodies she plays, with the insects instinctively responding to her intentions in any given scenario, such as attacking her targets or tracking them down elsewhere. The range of this ability is impressively vast, as demonstrated when she summoned an entire swarm of flies across Kamigoe City to locate Murakami in a distant area. The only known weakness to this power is that it depletes Koki's stamina.

Koki's first usage of this ability was to have a swarm of flies deliver Murakami over to her to defeat him and cancel out his ability to control the Severed Head Dribblers. In addition, she also summoned various insects to attack the Severed Head Dribblers, while sparing Aira, Rin, and Mai who were with her.

Etymology[]
- The name Koki means "happiness, good luck/luck, fortune" (幸) (kō) and "princess" (姬) (ki).
- Koki's surname Yukishiro means "snow" (雪) (yuki) and "white" (白) (shiro).
Trivia[]
- Koki's surname "Yukishiro" translates to "snow white", referring to the fictional character Snow White from two German fairy tales published by the Brothers Grimm: Snow White and Snow-White and Rose-Red. While the surname connects to both Snow Whites from the two unrelated stories, the Snow White from Snow-White and Rose-Red seems to have a more substantial connection, as the character's name in Japanese translates to "Yukishiro" (雪白), as opposed to the other Snow White's name translating to "Shirayuki" (白雪).
- Koki's bow headband, which she wore as a child matches the attire worn by the Snow White depicted in the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
- The "ki" in Koki meaning "princess", along with Momo once addressing Koki as the pygmies' princess, gives reference to Snow White being a well-known Disney Princess.
- Koki, being accompanied by pygmies, gives reference to the seven dwarves who accompany Snow White.
- Koki being well acquainted with the school nurse named Queen references Snow White's antagonistic relationship with her arch-nemesis known as the Evil Queen.
- Ironically, her role is more reminiscent of the Huntsman, a character forced to attack the heroine with a knife.
- Koki is shown to have a mole located on her left breast.[9]
- Koki is the first character shown to have gained a special ability through one of the Asura Knives but also have an innate supernatural power of her own.
- Koki possesses some notable parallels to Kousei Arima, the main protagonist of Your Lie in April.
- Both started off playing the piano at a young age and are gifted with pitch perfect. The sensation of this ability differs: Koki's perfect pitch is tied to vivid visualization, while Arima's is deeply rooted in acute perception of sound.
- Both competed in piano competitions when they were young and became the youngest winners.
- Both received training from their mothers to hone their skills, with the parents' influence also leading to both characters losing their talent and passion to play the piano until they reached their adolescence. Furthermore, both Koki and Arima's inability to play is represented by them being stuck deep underwater where they are unable to emit sound from the keys.
- Both touched and inspired characters with their piano playing when they were young and would end up becoming friends with them in high school and regain their passion as pianist by their encouragement. (Aira and Kaori Miyazono) Coincidentally, both characters experienced death in their series.
- Koki is in class 1-E.
- According to Dandadan Daizukan:[10]
- She likes music.
- She dislikes social media in general.
- She has no hobbies right now.
- Her specialty is playing piano.
- Her motto is "cherish the tiny happinesses".
