WARNING! |
Naki Kito (
In Dandadan, Naki serves as one of the primary antagonists during the Cursed House Arc, reemerged in the Current Saga during the Typhoon Human Arc as a major antagonist.
Appearance[]
While disguised as a human, Naki appears as a short elderly woman with a large perm and a unibrow. As for attire, she wears a stripe long-sleeve, buttoned shirt, with a large pearl necklace, and harem pants with a flower shape pattern.
As a subterranean, Naki has a wide head with side plating, eyes that have concentric circles and a cross, a long-puckered mouth with dark line markings, and long horns that curve on opposite sides. She has a spring hose body and abnormal feet with toes that resemble fingers.

Personality[]
Naki is devoted to protecting the Kito Family's home village from the Tsuchinoko, being willing to offer human sacrifices to the Tsuchinoko for 200 years to prevent it from causing the village volcano from erupting. At the same time, she and her family worship the Tsuchinoko, possibly because they believed that it blessed the village with hot springs for appeasing its hunger. Upon being sent to its lair, she conveyed to the creature that it was an honor to be in its presence, as the Kito Family offered Momo, Okarun, and Jiji as the next sacrifices. She found it disgraceful that Momo was using the Tsuchinoko's body as a makeshift hose to cool the lava, even after the enormous worm had previously swallowed her. After the Kito Family were arrested, it was revealed that her allegiance leaned more towards the Tsuchinoko than the protection of the village, as she became frustrated that her 200-year plan to feed the Tsuchinoko until it was big enough was ruined by Momo.
Naki is shown to be very prideful and arrogant, proclaiming that the village is the land of the Kito Family, given the many years they secretly kept it safe, and those who live in it should be grateful to them; especially of the fact that their offerings resulted in the village having hot springs. She also pointed out to Jiji that he would have ended up on the streets if not for her "warmheartedness" allowing him to continue living in his house rent free. Naki's pride as a self-proclaimed protector also could not allow Momo to make a successful attempt at saving the village from the active volcano, believing that an outsider should not dare to take over the Kito Family's role.
After her entire family was arrested and then became wanted fugitives, Naki sought revenge on Momo for ruining their standard of life. During the skirmish with the family, she didn't seem to care about any potential collateral damage. However, Naki is pragmatic and puts her revenge agenda aside when forced to deal with the Typhoon Human, realizing that they had to cooperate with the opposing group in order to survive, willingly following the plan laid out by Seiko to defeat the cryptid. Nonetheless, she became easily distracted when hearing Momo's voice, although unable to find her.
Despite of this, Naki's vindictive nature gets the better of her as soon as the opportunity arises. When the Typhoon Human was defeated, Naki attempted to immediately have Momo's group sacrificed for their developing Death Worm, which backfired when their attempt was countered and resulted in their family being stranded in the moon. Naki was left cursing Momo's name for sending them to an unknown place, despite the fact that the Earth was in plain sight and gravity was lower.
Naki seems to care for her family, but is generally strict and at times annoyed at their incompetence.
Background[]
Naki participating in the first sacrificial ritual.
During the feudal period, Naki led her family into offering village children to a Mongolian Death Worm they praised as the Tsuchinoko in order to prevent the volcano the worm resided in from becoming active and destroying their village. As this ritual continued up to the modern era, the Kito Family constructed a sacrificial house to lure in families, which would lead to the birth of the Evil Eye.[2]
Synopsis[]
Kintama Hunt Saga[]
Cursed House Arc[]
Naki and her relatives spot Jiji, the son of the hospitalized Enjoji Family who are the currently renters of the sacrificial house, inviting over Momo and Okarun to his home. While the male relatives confront Momo after she leaves for the hot springs, Naki and her female relatives invite themselves in to find out from Jiji as to why he recently left without a word and are told that he left to invite Okarun. Naki then questions him on whether he was planning on hiring more spirit mediums as he did before when he suspected that the house was haunted and becomes seemingly hostile after presenting her gun to inform him that she has a hunting license. Upon the male relatives return, Naki asks Jiji when the girl he brought with him would come back and hears him feigning ignorance, resulting in her pointing out that he was lying to her and having her family attack Jiji and Okarun in retaliation.
The Kito Family confronts Momo, Okarun, and Jiji.
After Momo returns to the house to find Okarun and Jiji lying on the flying severely beaten, the Kito Family launch an attack on the girl, with Naki sending Momo to the sacrificial room with a strong blow. Naki then lets Momo in on who the Kito Family are and prevents her from escaping the sacrificial room as the floor starts to have her sink down to the Tsuchinoko's lair. However, Naki and the other family members are sent down to the Tsuchinoko's lair as well after Okarun and Jiji regain conscious to push them into the room. After the Tsuchinoko shows itself, Naki and the other family members present themselves as worshippers to inform the Tsuchinoko that they are not the sacrifices, only to end up being swallowed by the Tsuchinoko regardless.
Later, Naki and the other family members are vomited out of the Tsuchinoko's body after Momo manages to kill it. Having killed the Tsuchinoko, Naki starts to blame Momo since the worm's death resulted in the village volcano becoming active. After quoting the village legend leads to Momo using the Tsuchinoko's corpse as a hose to cool down the magma, the Kito Family try to stop her from disrespecting the creature, as well as not wanting her to take credit for protecting the village. The Kito Family are then attacked by Manjiro who has come to defend Momo, as per his master's past phone call instructions to look after her and her friends, and the Evil Eye who has taken over Jiji's body. Naki's right arm is then broken after she tries to block an attack from the Evil Eye and is pulled by Momo from taking on another blow as she did not want the yokai have Jiji responsible for killing anyone. With the Evil Eye targeting both Naki, Momo, and Manjiro, the three go on the defensives and fight alongside each other.
After the events, the Kito Family are arrested after their crimes were finally made known to the authorities. However, Naki manages to hide from her search party and takes off her human disguise in anger, having become furious with Momo for ruining her 200-year plan to grow the Tsuchinoko and declares vengeance on her on behalf of the subterraneans.[1]
Current Saga[]
Typhoon Human Arc[]
Naki and her sons pursue Momo.
At some point, Naki freed Juichi, Juhiko, and Jumanuel Kito while they were being taken for their arrest. With the Kito Family back together, the group embarked on a mission to locate Momo, utilizing the scent from her jacket that she had left at Byakuja Village, and to seek their revenge. After successfully tracking her to the airport and managing to bypass security in disguises, Naki fails to perceive Momo's presence due to the girl's curse but is convinced that she is close by and expresses her excitement for their flight.
Aboard the plane, she discreetly authorizes her four sons to launch an attack on the group, prompting Bamora to activate Empty Space to ensure the passengers aren't harmed. The sudden transportation into the dimension catches the group off guard, and they immediately inform Naki, who admits she always suspected they were no ordinary people but never expected them to align themselves with the aliens. As she speaks, Naki removes her disguise, ready to confront her enemies. Momo and Jiji instantly recognize her, baffled by the presence of the Kito Family, given that they were supposed to be in custody.
Naki reveals herself to confront Momo and her allies.
However, when Naki hears Momo's voice but can't see her, she becomes momentarily shaken, frantically scanning her surroundings, unaware that Momo is standing right on her leg. Seiko, curious about their identities, asks for clarification. Jiji responds, explaining that they were his landlords who engaged in human sacrifices. Naki immediately interjects, insisting that her family did nothing wrong and, instead, accuses Jiji and his allies of causing mass deaths by allowing the volcano to erupt. Momo, however, dismisses this accusation as nonsense, reminding Naki that no one had actually died from the eruption. With tensions boiling over, the battle resumes. Naki and one of her relatives charge toward Jiji, the former shouting that he will experience the fury of those he killed. The mere mention of "hate" triggers the Evil Eye, momentarily seizing control of Jiji and sending Jugenna hurtling down the hallway with a punch. Naki barely dodges the incoming body, leaping across the seats to avoid collision. This revelation that the Evil Eye is still active stuns Naki, as she had assumed he would have already been exorcised, and, as she dodges Unji's umbrellas, urges Jiji to let the yokai loose. Landing right in front of Jiji, she prepares to unleash her 'Jennifer Lopez Anaconda attack. However, her attack is interrupted by Seiko who engages Naki in a rapid exchange of punches and blocks. Annoyed by the interference, Naki demands to know who Seiko is, only for Seiko to casually declare herself as "just a regular old lady." Momo shouts at the Kito Family to return to jail, only for Naki and her relatives to argue that their imprisonment was unjust and place the blame squarely on their enemies, claiming that they stole their village from them.
Naki using a Mongolian Death Worm to help neutralize the Typhoon Human.
This confrontation is then interrupted by the sudden explosion of the plane's engine erupts, sending everyone violently tumbling through the cabin. Juichi urgently warns Naki of the imminent danger, only for her to insist that he stop panicking. The two parties then notice the Typhoon Human outside, which is attracting frozen sharks mid-air. They grasp onto their seats and don their oxygen masks as instructed by Seiko after one of the sharks breaks through the plane, causing the air to escape. After Bamora utilizes her kaiju suit to seal the breach, Naki and her sons strap into their seats, with Naki voicing her frustration over the situation while Juichi remains in a state of panic. The Kito Family is then prompted to inform Seiko that they are all aboard the plane after she checks on everyone. As Momo and Jiji follow Seiko's orders to weaken the storm using their powers and the frozen sharks, Naki disregards Jugenna's proposal to launch an attack while they are preoccupied. Instead, she focuses on neutralizing the Typhoon Human herself. Utilizing her Jennifer Lopez Anaconda, Naki breaks through the floor of the plane, accessing the cargo hold beneath, where she has stored desiccated Mongolian Death Worms in packages. She then takes a bottle of water and pours it over one of the packages while reciting an incantation, causing a Mongolian Death Worm to awaken and burst through the plane's roof, astonishing Momo and Jiji. As she and her sons ride atop the enormous worm, Naki elaborates on its origins, explaining that the Byakuja Village Mongolian Death Worm had laid eggs prior to its death, and her family secretly hatched one, feeding it livestock before smuggling it onto the plane, temporarily dehydrating it for transport. Naki then instructs the Mongolian Death Worm to consume the frozen sharks and expel them directly into the typhoon.
Momo wonders how the Tsuchinoko Hatchling is not feezing and Naki shouts not to underestimate a being raised underground. After a while, noticing how the cryptid apparently hasn't been weakened at all, Naki asks how many sharks they have to shoot at the Typhoon Human before it dissipates, the Kito family members forming a telephone until the message reached Momo, Unji and Jiji down below. Momo orders to not stop but the message gets thwarted on the way up, eventually becoming "donut shop", confusing Naki as they shouldn't focus on eating. This distracts her but Juichi spots the nose of the Typhoon Human filled with sharks and alerts her mother who turns around too late as two sharks are shot at incredible speeds towards them, blasting the lower half of the Mongolian Death Worm. Naki is flabbergasted and is outraged by the heresy of the cryptid to harm their Great Serpent Lord. As the nose keeps targeting them with sharks, the Tsuchinoko Hatchling starts flying away while the Kitos struggle to remain grappled to its back. Naki doesn't notice Momo's grabbing the Kunagari and inserting her powers through it, forming a carp windsock allowing them to glide, convincing the matriarch that the Great Serpent has wonderful powers and it's the reason why they venerate it. She suddenly hears Momo's voice instructing her to go higher and she listens, although she doesn't spot her because of her tiny size.
Eventually they reach the stratosphere and observe the giant eye of the Typhoon, allowing Jiji to blast his Evil Gun towards it, confusing Naki who doesn't understand what's happening. The Evil Gun doesn't cause heavy damage and the Eye retaliates, charging up electricity, and Naki listens Momo's advice to steer the worm away as a giant electric arc reaches for the skies and barely misses them. Momo comes up with a plan and orders Naki to fill the Great Serpent with frozen sharks, however Naki still doesn't understand where the girl is. Momo tells her not to worry about it and do as she says, but Naki refuses as filling the Mongolian Death Worm with sharks won't allow it to fly. Momo explains to her that it doesn't matter since the plan is to dive into the eye of the cryptid, making Naki think she has given up and wants them to go towards their death with her. The girl screams that she isn't desperate and she's only thinking about defeating the Typhoon Human, claiming that she's gonna settle their differences aside with the Kitos for the moment and tells Naki again to fill the worm with frozen sharks. Naki, enraged, screams that she won't be ordered around by her and she won't stop them from taking revenge because of the Byakuja Village Incident, and as she finally starts feeding the Great Serpent with sharks she claims that it's because of her will alone that she's doing this, not because of Momo. Naki asks for her children's opinion and they all agree with her without objections, frustrating Momo as it didn't matter at all. Naki shouts to brace themselves and she points the Mongolian Death Worm downwards, diving onto another electric attack.
Momo orders her to fire the frozen sharks and Naki does so, stopping the electricity from hitting them, however the girl also tells her to turn right before they touch the Typhoon Human, confusing Naki as they initially planned to dive into it. Momo reassures her that they actually need to stir up the bottom of the sea to defeat it and Jiji shoots another Evil Gun at the water, although it's not powerful enough to dissipate the cryptid. Momo inquires about how many sharks they have left but unfortunately Naki informs her that they all have been spat out. As the Eye turns around to shoot them, Unji uses his last umbrella and augments the Evil Gun, creating a devastating beam that immediately makes the Typhoon Human vanish.
The Kitos and the Tsuchinoko Hatchling stranded on the moon.
With the cryptid defeated, Naki directs the Mongolian Death Worm towards their hideout. Momo orders her to fly to Shimane but she believes she's joking as now Naki is the one in control and informs them that they'll become human sacrifices once they arrive to their destination. Hearing this, the Evil Eye tries to break out while Jiji suppresses it, however Naki thinks he's just panicking and she confirms that he too is going to be sacrificed. Juichi tries to alert her again but she tells him to shut up because she's talking, noticing too late the megalodon ready to feast on them. The Kitos can't do nothing but scream and get eaten while Momo, Jiji and Unji jump off. However, the Evil Eye has taken over and throws a devastating kick at the megalodon, screaming at the Kitos inside to come out so he can kill them. The kick hurls the megalodon upwards and incredibly escapes the atmosphere, making the Kito Family and the Great Serpent land on the moon. Sometime later they crawl out and Naki screams out, wondering where they are. As her children point out the thin air and the reduced gravity, Naki is convinced that Momo set them up, taking advantage of their help to defeat the Typhoon Human before launching them far away. Naki again swears revenge on Momo, promising to tear her to pieces and not to forget about them as the Kitos and the Mongolian Death Worm explore the moon while doing the serpent pose.
