Okarun vs. Evil Eye is a battle that took place in the Tsuchinoko's lair under the Cursed House in Byakuja Village. After saving Momo from the Evil Eye, who tricked Jiji into signing a contract that gave him control of his body, Okarun helps her escape the lair so she can find a way to rescue them. Now that Okarun is alone with the Evil Eye, a vicious fight ensues.
Prologue[]
The Evil Eye fully possessing Jiji.
After descending the hundreds of houses in the lair, the Evil Eye leads Jiji to his altar where his melted body is preserved. Turbo Granny warns Jiji multiple times not to trust him, but upon seeing him being locked up with no chance of playing with the other kids and him being sacrificed to the volcano, Jiji offers to play with him for multiple lifetimes. Unbeknownst to him, he has just signed a contract allowing the yokai to take over him, using his body for his quest to murder all humans. He immediately delivers a strong blow to the Tsuchinoko and sends Momo and Turbo Granny flying with a kick, asking if the latter has become the human's slave. The Mongolian Death Worm emits a lightning attack, but the Evil Eye shields himself and the others with a cursed house formed by the grudges of those were sacrificed. He then molds it into a grudge ball, playing with it and throwing it at devastating speeds, piercing through the Tsuchinoko multiple times which decides to escape.
Okarun stopping the Evil Eye from finishing off Momo.
Momo wonders why he's acting that way, so the Turbo Granny points out that Seiko truly had meant that Jiji was a prodigy thanks to his dormant spiritual and physical prowess, making him the perfect vessel for the Evil Eye. The yokai sends the grudge ball her way at such speed that she's forced to use both of her psychokinetic hands to parry it, leaving her side vulnerable to the Evil Eye. She's punched into the wall and before he can finish her off by kicking the ball, Okarun arrives and counters it with a kick of his own. Instead of fighting, Okarun decides to grab Momo and climb through the lair as the Evil Eye targets them with the grudge ball. They make their way to the top and notice that the Mongolian Death Worm is spewing out poison from its back, so they scramble to find a way to both escape and save Jiji. Okarun offers to stay behind as long as she makes it out, hoping that she can orchestrate a plan to rescue them. Momo promises him that she will succeed and Okarun proceeds to catapult her skyward on top of a sofa. Just as she pulls herself up into the house above, the Evil Eye reaches Okarun, remarking that he should be pleased to be the first to die out of all the humans in the world. The boy stands his ground because he had hurt Momo, wanting to make him regret his actions.
Battle[]
The Evil Eye attacking Okarun.
Okarun adapts the strategy of scurrying away and getting close from time to time to land a few hits, but the Evil Eye can surprisingly match up Turbo Granny's speed. They crash through the walls of the various houses and when the Evil Eye has him in a clear view, he propels the grudge ball his way, ricocheting on the surfaces around Okarun, making him slow down to focus on dodging. He closes the distance and Okarun narrowly evades a point-blank punch from the Evil Eye by crouching. The yokai tries to strike him with his knee so Okarun leaps away from it, but the ball bounces back from another wall and connects to his face, breaking his mask and making him spit out blood. The Evil Eye turns around and slams him down into the floor with his fist. Before he can deal the finishing blow, Okarun gains the energy to roll out of the way, maintaing his distance as he catches his breath. The evil spirit remarks that his fleeting attacks and evasive movement is annoying, but he's going to take this opportunity to use his new body to the fullest. Suddenly, blood starts spilling from his nose and he looks up at the Tsuchinoko, realizing that the poison is having a toll on the vessel and he should end the fight quickly. The grudge ball unexpectedly rains down on Okarun and he reacts just in time to dodge it, however the yokai opens his palm towards it, spreading the grudges inside the ball to surround the boy, trapping him in the cursed house.
Okarun defeating the Evil Eye.
He tries breaking out and the Evil Eye tells him that it's useless as he morphs through it, announcing that he's home. He immediately throws a cross punch and although Okarun initially ducks under it, the enclosed space limits his movements, permitting the Evil Eye to strike his face with his knee and unleash a barrage of close ranged jabs, destroying the boy. He declares his enjoyment for beating him up and declares that after him, it will be Momo's turn to undergo torture. Hearing this, Okarun furiously shuts his mouth by grabbing his face, informing him that he has done three things that he shouldn't have, with the first being the pain he caused Momo and the second the fact that he defiled Jiji's body. He screams out that Jiji would have never hurt Momo and he demands for him to give Jiji back, but despite this, the Evil Eye resumes his assault. Incredibly, after evading his fist, Okarun crouches even further down under his knee strike, bouncing up with his two fists to land a vicious uppercut on the yokai's jaw. The Evil Eye tries to stop him, but Okarun has decided not to hold back and he repeats this attack twenty more times. With each strike, the cursed house gets chipped more and more until it collapses right at the last uppercut, sending the unconscious Evil Eye flying back. Now victorious, Okarun finish his previous sentence, stating that the last thing he shouldn't have done is anger him. Due to the injuries he took and his stamina being depleted over the course of the fight, Okarun calls for Momo's help before collapsing too.
Aftermath[]
Okarun and Turbo Granny stuck in the phlegm.
Instead of passing out, Okarun uses all his energies to stand up, believing that Momo is going to rescue them and thus he needs to bring Jiji as close to the exit as possible to facilitate the process. He starts dragging the Evil Eye's body across the stairs, although his heavy weight makes this difficult. He keeps climbing up until he hears a voice coming from the depths of the lair, revealed to be Turbo Granny who was left behind and got stuck in the phlegm of the Tsuchinoko. Thinking that she's going to spend the rest of eternity trapped in a pile of goo, she desperately screams out for help and Okarun luckily hears her. He tries to rescue her by walking into the phlegm and pulling her out, but because he pushed too hard, he miscalculated and ended up diving into the sticky liquid too, trapping the two of them. Turbo Granny soon stops insulting Okarun so they can scream for Momo to save them.
The Evil Eye later wakes up and escapes the lair, finding the Kitos, Momo and Manjiro, thus initiating another brawl.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
In the beginning, Okarun is seen running away from the grudge ball, even having to run on walls to escape it. After breaking through the walls of the houses, the Evil Eye spots him in the open and hurls the ball at him, which he barely dodges by tilting his head to the side. Okarun lands but as he look up, he notices that the yokai has already collected the grudge ball and he leaps away as he sends another shot his way. A sequence of Okarun making his way through convoluted and twisted corridors, jumping on roofs and walls as he tries to evade the grudge ball plays out. He exits and falls down, however the Evil Eye jumps up from a ledge under him, launching an uppercut. Okarun reacts in time and he dodges again when he tries to crush him with his fist, breaking the concrete below. The boy jumps on a wall and uses his legs to catapult himself at the spirit with his fists pointed at him, although he easily blocks him and flings him away. Okarun doesn't have time to think upon landing due to the Evil Eye kicking the grudge ball again, forcing him to jump and allowing the enemy to close the distance, striking him with his knee and making him crush through a building. While the wall crumbles, Okarun sneaks behind the spirit and dropkicks him although he does minimal damage. The Evil Eye turns around to punch him but Okarun ducks under and scurries away.
Furthermore, the Evil Eye is shown to control the grudge ball remotely thanks to the eye on his forehead glowing purple. Later, instead of his twenty consecutive uppercuts in the manga, he unleashes a hundred in five different sets of twenty.
