Okarun vs. Evil Eye (Rematch) is a battle that took place on the Ayase Residence grounds. Following Okarun's training against the Music Room Portraits, he challenges the Evil Eye with the intention to stop his violent outbursts by overpowering him.
Prologue[]
Momo trapped in the Evil Eye's cursed house.
Because of the recent close call in which the Evil Eye almost murdered Momo, Okarun begins training and along with Turbo Granny and Aira, they head to Kami High to fight the Music Room Portraits. Meanwhile, Manjiro and Seiko discuss about what just happened, with the former stating that thanks to Momo's quick wits they avoided the worst and he suggests to call the Hayashi again, even offering to perform the ritual if she doesn't want to. Seiko admits that as an adult, she wishes to simply shoulder the burdens and the responsibilities of the children so they can do whatever they want, however Manjiro remarks that an adult must teach them about reality too. He recognizes Jiji's strong spirit but he's still adamant about his decision, later calling the Hayashi and revealing the news to him, pointing out that Seiko and Momo may risk their lives if they keep trying to befriend the yokai.
Momo is irritated because she saw how hard Jiji was training and she asks Seiko to intervene, though she remains quiet. Suddenly, the trio returns home and Okarun shouts Jiji's name as Aira collects a glass of water. Okarun announces that he's going to beat up the Evil Eye and asks not to interfere. Momo treats it as a sick joke but Okarun reveals that he was very angry when she was almost killed by the yokai, who's just too savage and cunning to hold down. Nonetheless, the fact that they have all tried to accept him in the first place made Okarun admire them and realize how weak he was, prompting him to train so he can maintain Jiji's wish to protect the Evil Eye. Manjiro informs him that they have already called the Hayashi but Seiko shuts him off, recognizing the determination in Okarun's words. Okarun with Turbo Granny on his back prepare as Jiji begs him to help the Evil Eye before he gets splashed by Aira, losing control over his body.
Battle[]
Okarun and the Evil Eye clashing.
The Evil Eye summons his grudge ball and punches it at the charging Okarun, splitting it in multiple flying projectiles. Okarun keeps his speed up, evades the grudges and ducks under the Evil Eye's kick, allowing him to stand up and deliver a strong uppercut with both fists which the yokai blocks with his elbow and raises him in the air. The spirit attempts to strike him with his knee but Okarun swerves to the side just before the barrage of grudges comes flying back, which he skillfully traverses without getting hit. The Evil Eye throws up his leg but the boy finds an opening under it, so when the yokai notices this, he slams his foot into the ground to catch him. Okarun is too fast for him and drops himself on the ground belly-up behind him, using his hands to push himself upwards, flinging the Evil Eye in the sky.
Okarun finishing off the Evil Eye by going all-out.
The grudges target him again but Okarun speeds up even more and delivers four consecutive uppercuts to the defenseless yokai, treating him like a ball in the air while surrounded by the deadly storm of grudges. The last punch throws the spirit even higher and Okarun leaps in the sky, descending onto the evil spirit with an eldtrich smile. The Evil Eye can't help but smile at the enjoyment he's feeling while battling before Okarun dropkicks him into the ground, bouncing back into the air due to the impact. When the boy lands, he decides to go all-out and smashes his head into the yokai's abdomen at a cataclismic speed, catapulting him into the Ayase residence and obliterating it.
Aftermath[]
Evil Eye willingly giving control back to Jiji.
Debris rain onto the spectators and Manjiro even breaks some planks to defend Seiko. Okarun catches his breath but the Evil Eye emerges from the ruins, admitting that he's having so much fun and prompts him to resume. Aira shockingly remembers that Okarun has already gone all-out in the recent fight against the Music Room Portraits so he can't transform anymore, however the boy orders them not to interfere. Momo asks for Seiko's help, but the woman tells her that it would mean having to exorcise the Evil Eye. Even Turbo Granny notices his shaking knees and he begs her to keep quiet when the Evil Eye approaches him, demanding him to manifest his powers again. Unexpectedly, Okarun declares that he doesn't want to bully a weakling, a conclusion that he has reached after sweeping the floor with the yokai. The Evil Eye is flabbergasted and keeps insisting that he's tough, yet Okarun persists and states that he's willing to challenge him again only if he promises to not fight with anybody else. The yokai agrees but Okarun tells him that he's busy with school and can only fight him once per week, surprising the others on how he's beating the Evil Eye mentally and not physically, a plan that he previously revealed to Turbo Granny in which he would become the spirit's playmate. With the conditions of the deal now clear, the Evil Eye decides to give away his briefs, which apparently don't agree and they are handed to Okarun before the Evil Eye excitingly grants control back to Jiji, wanting to fight Okarun again on the next tuesday.
The briefs are given to Manjiro and sealed at the Tsuchinoko Shrine. To rebuild the house, Okarun and Aira ask for Mr. Mantis Shrimp's help who contacts his alien friend Ludris who's luckily on Earth in that moment. Ludris' nanoskin, which picks up on brainwaves, is used to replicate the house and it will have a fundamental role in future battles.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
The battle is drastically different compared to the manga. At the start of the fight, Evil Eye doesn't summon the grudge ball but he instead throws a punch at Okarun which he parries with his foot before staring at each other up close. In the next episode, the battle immediately starts with Okarun evading the grudge balls and dropkicking the spirit, who stops himself while sliding and counters with a leap and a kick of his own. Okarun rushes back in and parries the enemy's punch with a double-fist uppercut, but none can overwhelm the other so the Evil Eye resorts to strike him with his foot. The boy ducks under and stands up with a second uppercut, which this time is powerful enough to throw the yokai back and make him lose his balance. He tries to take advantage of this, but the Evil Eye leaps at the last moment and performs a kick preceded by a frontflip. Instead of blocking it, Okarun smartly throws himself into the ground with his feet in the air, using his hands to push his body upwards and launch the spirit skyward. Up in the air, the Evil Eye summons a grand total of twenty-six grudge balls and directs them towards him, but Okarun closes in the distance before they can land close to him. The Evil Eye then uses the smoke cloud to his advantage to take Okarun by surprise, smashing the floor with his fist and forcing him to retreat, although the yokai is right behind him, charging up his fist. Okarun spins his body around and stops the blow with his foot, emanating a giant shockwave mixed between red and purple that separates them.
The two recover from a distance, taking a small break in before rushing towards one another, parrying each others' blows up to five times in a row. The Evil Eye then summons a volley of grudge balls which Okarun skillfully traverses and reaches the spirit who tries to strike him with his fist. Okarun swerves to the side and crouches, unleashing multiple uppercuts at the Evil Eye which he initially blocks but he's soon overwhelmed and flung upwards. The yokai uses this opportunity to recall the grudge balls and merge them into the giant cursed house, sending it crashing down onto his enemy. He initially thinks he has crushed him, however Okarun takes him by surprise, flying higher than him in what appears to be a totally black and red form, consumed by his powers and delivering a wretched smile. He dives onto the yokai, causing him to spit out blood while laughing, and finally Okarun finishes him off by going all-out, his eldritch black transformation overwhelming the Evil Eye into a headbutt targeting his stomach and launching him into the house, completely destroying it.
