Appearance[]
Payase is a man with short, side-parted hair and incredibly dark eye bags. Much like his partner, he also wears a logo consisting of a multi-ringed eye, albeit his doesn't have the triangle background. Due to his curse-collecting hobby, those with the ability to detect auras would notice that his is practically black.
Personality[]
Payase is an emotional and expressive young man who has a deep fixation for cursed objects. Regardless of the misfortune they bring onto the claimer, he is willingly to acquire them, believing that due to his fixation with them he would be immune to their more negative effects, and calls them "cute".

Kozuka Knives Arc[]
After recently acquiring a cursed painting that causes fires to erupt in his home, Payase, together with Kashimoto, is contacted by Seiko Ayase to convene with her at a restaurant. There, he shares with her about his recent purchase and is asked by Seiko to look after the Fairy-Tale Card's cursed trunk, which he gladly accepts. Just as Kashimoto relays his information on the Uchide-no-kozuchi and where she should go to acquire it, Payase gets knocked back by Kashimoto after a jiangshi kicks him away.[1]
Using their powers, Payase and Kashimoto punch the Minotaur and the horde of jiangshi away from the injured Seiko and prepare to fight the enemies confronting them.[2] Seeing Seiko back on her feet after enduring injuries inflicted by the Minotaur, Payase asks if she is okay. In response, Seiko likens her ordeal to that of the most excruciating osteopathy clinic imaginable, a remark that strikes a chord with Kashimoto while leaving Payase perplexed. After being informed by Seiko that the Minotaur's body is made of iron, and his strength increases every time he is hit, Payase and Kashimoto are instructed by her to handle fighting the Minotaur while she goes to retrieve her bag. While attacks with Aphoom-Zhah, Payase covers Seiko by using his shadow power to disintegrate the jiangshi. This catches the Minotaur's interest in having the power for himself, much to Payase's disapproval. Payase makes an attempt to disintegrate the Minotaur but fails after his shadow spike fails to pierce through his groin, which leaves him open for the Minotaur to grab him out of his shadow and throw him aside. Kashimoto then tries his hand at attacking the Minotaur. Payase believes that his attacks are working but is caution by Seiko to keep his guard. After the Minotaur punches Kashimoto to a wall, Payase expresses worry for his partner's well-being but continues to follow Seiko's orders to focus on covering her from the jiangshi as she reaches for her purse. When the Minotaur kicks Seiko away from her purse and punches Kashimoto after he comes in to attack with Aphoom-Zhah, Payase, as a shadow, throws Seiko's purse her way before the Minotaur strikes him. Thanks to the series of freezing blows delivered by Kashimoto and the light shining from the Minotaur, which darkens his shadow, the Minotaur's iron muscles become sufficiently fragile for Payase to break the creature's arms while hidden in shadow. The Minotaur inquiries about the reason for this occurrence, to which Payase elucidates the relationship between shadow and light. The confrontation then concludes with Seiko affixing a talisman to the Minotaur's head and subsequently delivering a decisive kick that obliterates his head.[3]

Strengths and Weaknesses
The primary strength of Payase's shadow manipulation is that it enables him to disperse his enemies. He accomplishes this by extending his shadow to intertwine with the shadow of his target and creating a spike that pierces them from their groin to their head. Payase refers to this as "sweeping the darkness". In addition, Payase can enter his own shadow, allowing him to move swiftly around any surfaces and make surprise attacks. Though he can enter his shadow, Payase remains tangible if a part of his Darkness form extends out from his shadow. If a part of his body is caught while he is mostly within his shadow, Payase risks being dragged out by his opponent and left vulnerable to attack. While Payase's shadow spike can penetrate flesh, it has proven ineffectiveness against harden materials, such as iron. Payase can also be forcibly stripped out of his Darkness cloak, though he shows no problem in reforming it.
Usage | ||
Payase uses the dispersing power of his shadow to eliminate his opponents on the spot, all while merged with his shadow to easily move around his surroundings.

Trivia[]
- Payase and Kashimoto are based off of the urban legend broadcast duo Yasuhiro Hayase and Makoto Kishimoto, also known as the Toshi Boys.
- Payase and Kashimoto's clothes featuring ripple pattern eyes matches the ones found on Ludris' chest and Count Saint-Germain's pins on his collar. Interestingly, both Payase and Kashimoto are collectors of the paranormal like Count Saint-Germain. Whether there is connection between them and the two is unknown.
- The symbols most likely give reference to the Eye of Providence, a symbol recognized by Freemasons as a representation of God's watchful eye over humanity. It is most commonly depicted on the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States on the American one-dollar bill.
- Payase and Kashimoto's combined attack knocking back the Minotaur, along with their bird theme powers, could be based on the Fenghuang/Hōō in Eastern mythology. Known as "Chinese phoenixes", these birds come in a yin-yang pair and represent grace and virtue.
- Payase compares his Darkness form to Kodoku, a type of poisonous magic in Japanese folklore that is a derivative of the Chinese Gu magic.
