Severed Head Dribblers (生首ドリブル Namakubi Doriburu?) are entities who are summoned in a gym whenever there are trespassers late at night.

In Dandadan, the Severed Head Dribblers of the Kami High gymnasium serve as major antagonists during the Kozuka Knives Arc.

Physical Characteristics[]

Severed Head Dribblers appear as headless bodies wearing basketball player attire: jerseys, shorts, and sneakers. While the bodies are active, their missing heads merely float in mid-air.

Psychological Characteristics[]

The Severed Head Dribblers are hostile towards anyone who trespasses inside their gym late at night, with their aim being to behead them by slamming their head's through a basketball hoop. They don't seem to attack until one Severed Head Dribbler blows a whistle.

Overall Strength[]

Immense Strength: The Severed Head Dribblers possess incredible strength, as they are able to throw their heads as projectiles with enough force to destroy surfaces and greatly injure their targets.

Special Abilities[]

Regeneration [v · e]

Severed Head Dribblers are able to instantly heal from injuries, as they were shown recovering from the damage caused by Aira's Pirouette Noble Drill.

Beheading
Severed Head Dribblers have the unique capability to detach an individual's head from their body while they remain momentarily conscious, which they achieve by slam dunking the head through a basketball hoop.
Strengths and Weaknesses

The main strength of this power is that it allows Severed Head Dribblers to send their victim's body to the afterlife while their head remains in the living world by executing a slam dunk through a basketball hoop. Victims who are under the effects of this power will have their life force gradually leak out from their necks until nothing is left, resulting in them drifting in the gym indefinitely.

The only known way to undo this power and have the victim regain their body is for them to undergo the beheading process in reverse; meaning that their head must pass through the basketball hoop below, a task that requires the assistance of a third party.

Usage

Severed Head Dribblers use this power to punish any trespassers that enter their gym during the night.

Current Saga[]

Kozuka Knives Arc[]

After meeting up with Kouki at the Kami High gymnasium and catching Rin pursuing them, Murakami summoned the Severed Head Dribblers to convert the girls into floating heads and moves elsewhere, realizing they were conspiring to determine the identity of Kouki's blackmailer.[1]

Shortly thereafter, the Severed Head Dribblers set their sights on Aira, who arrives with Okarun and Kinta to assist Kouki. Aira evades their attacks and stumbles upon Rin's floating head. As Mai briefs her on the events leading up to her arrival and clarifies the identities of the headless bodies, the Severed Head Dribblers strike Aira and attempt to behead her like Rin. However, Aira uses her Acrobatic Silky hair to retrieve Rin's head and guide it through the basketball hoop, restoring her body. With her body recovered, Rin uses Mai's Onbusuman gravity ability to repel the Severed Head Dribblers.[2]

While Aira and Rin have the Severed Head Dribblers focus on them, Mai collaborates with the pygmies to help restore Kouki back to normal. The Severed Head Dribblers attempt to stop them by blocking their way to the hoop. However, the pygmies sneak Kouki's head underneath them and passes her below the hoop to successfully reobtain her full body. Just as Kouki reveals who her blackmailer is to Aira, the Severed Head Dribblers start grow in size and puts pressure on the girls, along with the gym's walls closing in on them.[3]

Trivia[]

  • The Severed Head Dribblers might be based off Nukekubi, yokais found in Japanese folklore who appear to be ordinary people by day but when night falls their heads detach at the neck and fly around in search of human prey.
  • The Severed Head Dribblers may also reference Headless Soccer, a Japanese urban legend about high school students who played soccer with a headless ghost who displayed exceptional skills and led the team to victory before vanishing into the night.
