Subterraneans (地底人 Chisokojin?) are creatures originating from Agartha. The only known subterraneans seen are the Kito Family, who once resided in Byakuja Village to see to the growth of a Mongolian Death Worm.

The full form of a subterranean.
As revealed by Naki Kito, the bodies of subterraneans are segmented like stacks of cylinders with abnormal feet (having fingers instead of toes). They have elongated heads, curved horns, circular, almost target-like eyes, and a long-puckered mouth with dark line markings.

Immense Strength: Subterraneans are shown to possess great physical strength, as demonstrated by Naki who was able to send Momo crushing through walls with two simultaneous punches.
Extreme Temperatures Resistance: Due to the harsh environments these creatures had to endure underground, they developed a strong resistance to the cold, shown when the Kito Family rode for several minutes the back of a Mongolian Death Worm next to a typhoon high up in the stratosphere. Furthermore, temperatures on the Moon where Naki Kito and the five men are stranded can go over 100°C and below 200°C, which they are shown to tolerate.
Hypoxia Tolerance: The subterraneans don't seem affected by the very thin layer of air on the Moon's exosphere, meaning they don't need lots of oxygen to sustain themselves.
Ebullism Tolerance: The very low pressure on the Moon and the overall vacuum should form gas bubbles inside the bloodstream of the Kitos, which is generally considered lethal. This however doesn't happen.

- The Subterraneans' appearance is similar to the Alien Hipporit from Ultraman.
- Agartha is a mythical realm believed to exist on the inner surface of the Earth. It is often associated with the hollow Earth theory and has gained popularity in esoteric, occult, and New Age circles. The idea was first presented by Louis Jacolliot in his 1873 work "Les Fils du Dieu," and later elaborated by writers such as Alexandre Saint-Yves d'Alveydre, Ferdynand Ossendowski, and René Guénon.
